Devastated- ER trip last night (long)

My H and I went to the ER last night because I was having some pain in the right side of my abdomen.  They took tons of blood from me, and then went in to do an u/s.  The u/s tech couldn't find anything (my uterus is tilted downward and I guess it made things difficult to see) so he went for the V probe.  He didn't say anything to me, so I knew something was wrong.

At my first prenatal visit I saw a NP.  She used the V probe on me but didn't really know how to, so she couldn't give us an exact measurement of the embryo.  Since I never had a period and conceived off of BCP I told her when I thought we conceived and so she gave me a due date based off of that.  Her exam was less than thorough.

Either way, the ER doc came back to tell me the fetus was measuring at 6wks and 3 days, but that they could not detect a hb.  I have had no bleeding and no cramping and he checked my cervix and said it was closed.  At this point he said it is more likely that I had/or am having a MC. Second more unlikely situation is that our dates are way off and the hb hasn't started yet.  I got my BFP on 12-30-08 and used first response I had two lines, one was quite faint, but enough to know I was prego.  I am so confused.  I go in for another u/s next week to confirm what is going on.  I asked that HCG levels be taken but they wouldn't give them to me (Kaiser).  I also found out my blood type is A-, which is something I never knew and the previous NP never told me.

How early can you get a big fact positve?

If we conceived on say Dec. 17th, then wouldn't my fetus be exactly 6 wks??

I know it's entirely possible that I have had, or am having a MC, it's just so hard to face.  I am dreading the u/s next friday.Crying

Re: Devastated- ER trip last night (long)

  • I am so sorry you are going through such a frightening experience. You can get a BFP pretty early for some women and not for others. Usually you want to wait until your missed period. The heart starts to beat around week 5 so it may just be that it is still early to detect a heartbeat. I hope that may be the case.
  • I'm so sorry you're having to go through this! I will keep you in my prayers- waiting is never easy :(
Don't worry about tomorrow. After all, today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Take each day as it comes...one at a time. Midnight Baking Adventures Blog

  • I really try to give Kaiser the benefit of the doubt most of the time, but to make you wait until Friday and not give you a test is just mean. I am so sorry you are going through this Brenda. I will be thinking of you. ((Hugs))
  • Oh, Brenda, I am so so sorry. I hope you are able to get through this week and make it to Friday stress and worry-free. I hope the dates are just wrong and that the heartbeat just can't be detected this early.

    {{{hugs}}}

  • Oh Brenda I am so sorry to hear this.  You and your hubby will be in my thoughts and i hope this week flies by so that you can get some answers! BIG HUGS!!!!!
  • Oh No! I hope the dates are just off! The heartbeat CAN start as early as 5 weeks, but not all do and you can't always, no even most of the time, see them that early.  When I found out we were having the triplets, I was 5 1/2 weeks and all we saw were 3 little black hole looking things. My Dr. told me I could come back in a week and there was a 50/50 chance of seeing heartbeats or I could wait 2 weeks and then its 100%. We waited the 2 weeks, so I was almost 8 weeks and then we saw all 3 of them. People have gotten a BFP at 10 DPO, I've even heard of 8 and 9 DPO even though that sounds VERY early to me. So if you conceived Dec 20-21-22 then you would be around 8 weeks pregnant. Honeslty though, do you think they knew what they were doing? A V-probe is pretty dang easy to use, I could practically do the procedure on myself I've had so many done. So maybe the tech in the RE wasnt so great!? I am still holding out hope Brenda! I would call and complain and ask to see a REAL OB! Not a NP. and to see them sooner than Friday! ALSO--if you are not completely sure of your O date you could have ovulated late! There are a lot of maybe's right now! So hang in there and keep us posted! ***BIG HUGS AND LOTS OF PRAYERS***
  • I'm so sorry Brenda. Thats terrible to have to wait so long. Hopefully the dates are just off, its definitely not an exact science. xoxo
  • Brenda, I'm sorry you are going through this and have to wait until Friday to find out anything more.  In my case my first OB appt was at 11 weeks so that is when we got to see the heartbeat.  She didn't even attempt to let us hear it unitl my next appointment 4 weeks later, and even then she did not find it right away. It is still like that weeks later.  Keep us updatedLeft Hug.
  • Brenda! I'm so sorry this is happening but I'm sure it will all be fine! I'm here if you need anything so just let me know, k? Left Hug
  • KAISER...don't get me started on them!!! They are the ones who let my mother die!

When I was 9 weeks I had some spotting and went to the ER. They took urine, blood, and did an u/s to make sure everything was fine (but then, I have a different insurance, not Kaiser). I left the hospital fully confident that everything was okay. Why they wouldn't take your blood is beyond me! How horrible to get no peace of mind when they could do something so simple.

Left HugI will be thinking of you, Brenda! Right Hug

  • Hugs, Brenda.  I am so sorry you are going through this.  I really hope it all ends up OK, and you get some answers before Friday.

Email me if you want to talk.  Anytime.

    xoxo

They can do another u/s in a few days and check for the HB again!!

  • Oh my dear I'm so sorry you have to go though this.

I won't attempt to try and help figure out the earlies for BFP, HBs and such as Tiff, Kim, and Sharra know 10x what I do about the subject.

All I can say is I hope with all my heart the best for you and the baby bean and I will keep you in my thoughts.

Please, and much as you feel comfortable doing so, keep us informed how you are.

    sending love your way.

  • I am sorry to hear this. I hope that everything turns out for the best.
  • Bren,

I am so sorry you are going through this.  You are in my prayers.  I just want to tell you I know exactly what you are going through, and I know how devastated and scared you might feel.  I have had great experience with Kaiser, but in the same in token, I have had some negative ones as well.  BTW, if you continue to have pains, I would suggest going back to ER, and not wait until Friday.  It makes me angry that they are making you wait that long.  I hope that everything will be alright, and I will continue to pray for you and your baby.

  • Thank you ladies for all your prayers and well wishes, they mean so much to me and my DH right now.  I will keep you updated as soon as I have more news.  Right now I'm just trying to find a decent OBGYN to go to in OC.
  • *hugs*

my poor friend! I can't believe you're going through this. I will keep positives thoughts for you. I'm glad you're going to find another OB. b.s. making you wait for something that's so upsetting.

    xoxoxo

  • I'm so sorry Bren.  I will be thinking about you all this week and hoping for a good outcome.

  • I'm so sorry!  It is possible that you O'd late and that your dates are off.  I had Kaiser up in the bay area and really had to fight for what I wanted.  I know it's not easy to do but I'd call and push hard until I got a blood test to confirm or an u/s asap.  I'll be praying for you guys!
