Frustrated

Ugh I am so frustrated. I have been working out several times a week since Jan 1, running 3 miles each time. I was making real progress and lost about 9 pounds. But about a week ago my leg started hurting big time after running and I think I strained a muscle in my thigh. Now I am limping, I cannot run (I tried twice this week...I ran much more slowly than normal and it hurt!!), and I have re-gained 3 pounds as a result. I'm just trying to rest my leg, but I hate that it is derailing my progress.

Ugh. I might go swim tomorrow, but I HATE using the gym pool and I feel like the stationary bikes are not a good workout. bleh

Ok, vent over.

On a good note, I think I have lost inches because my clothes are fitting better and I am back to a size 12 at Old Navy (I had to wear a 14 as recently as December.) I would LIKE to be an 8 or 10 though!

Re: Frustrated

  • sorry I have no advice for you. Hopefully your leg gets better soon!!
  • Swimming is great excercise. I understand about the gym pool though. Just shower right after and you'll be fine. :) Good luck. Oh, and Great job on the inches part. That's great!! I would love to be an 8 too. I can't remember the last time I fit into an 8.
  • Swimming really is fantastic exercise and its easy on your joints. Gym pools can be nasty but it might be worth it until your leg is better. It sounds like your'e making good progress!
  • Thanks guys! My leg is feeling a lot better today;  I can actually walk without limping.

Part of the reason I am reluctant to swim is that I was a competitive swimmer for 8 years. I *lived* in the pool, and now if I try to work out by swimming, I feel like I don't push myself hard enough. It is a dumb mental thing. That, and I have seen too many gross things at the gym pool!

I am resting one more day, and then getting back to the gym tomorrow.  I will probably bike and start working my upper body with weights.

Kristy, I haven't been an 8 since I was like 15! lol I was a 10 for a long time, but got lazy my last year of college and gained a lot of weight, going up nearly to a 16 for awhile. Now I am finally getting back into a 12 (not all brands though, because of course women's clothing cannot be consistent. lame) and while I would love to be an 8, know that 10 is more reasonable. But since i pretty much lived in a bathing suit for most of my life and was super in shape, I now have weird views of my body shape/size.

Thanks again for all the encouragement!! That's why I love this board!!
