Well this is it for me...

My first day back to work is tomorrow. I'm scheduled but wont know for sure till 5 am when they call me.

I'm soooo nervous. Nurses are notorious b*tches especially to registry so I have know idea what it's going to be like. I don't know where supplies are, how report is given, how to order labs, or even what floor I my unit is on, and on and on and on.... If they are total b*tches they may not help me at all. I fully expect these first few weeks to suuuuuuuucccckkk!!

Since I have never been b*tichy to a registry I can only hope that there is such a thing as karma and I will find a kind soul who will help me out

Even if I do have access to the Internet I'm not gonna use it for a while till I've made a place for myself. So I wont be around much this week.

Don't nobody go and do anything to exciting while I'm gone. :(

Re: Well this is it for me...

  • GL tomorrow, Amy! That's just like subbing.  Some teachers are not nice to subs either.  Hopefully someone will be helpful and nice to you like you were to other registry nurses.
  • You are amazing Amy and you will fit right in! And if those b!tches even try and be mean I will waddle my prego ass in here and slap them for you! Stick out tongue
  • Sorry, I'm dumb...what is a registry?

I've been thinking about you...good luck tomorrow!

  • Good luck. I really do hope all goes well. I'm right down the street if anyone needs to regulate on any crabby nurses. I'm sure Tiff and I can handle them :)
  • Registry nurses set their own schedule. I give them the days I want to work and I'm not required to work weekends or holidays. I actually only have to give them one shift every thirty days to meet my requirement.

I'm also not guaranteed to work either. If I were staff they would have to give me my 40 hrs a week. They call me everyday just before my shift to let me know if I'm working or not.

If I don't get enough shifts this way I will have to take a staff job but I'm hoping it will work.

I don't get benefits, sick days, or vacation, but I'm making 1 1/2 time more than I did as a staff nurse.

Often time staff nurses resent registry 'cause they get paid more for doing the same job but it's silly really. When you factor in benefits they really make the same.

Anyway it's the flexible schedule I want. It's the only way I can make the money we need and have the flexibility to try and make the photography thing happen.

Tiff..keep the phone close I just may call ya!

  • Good luck Amy. I am sure you will do great!
  • I know exactly what you mean....(even though i am not one of those bitchy ones, i'm the one always helping out) but I do hope it goes smootly for you and that you have a good day, if you get to work :-) GL

  • Great I didn't sleep all night thinking about it and then they canceled me anyway. Dang it.
  • Sorry they canceled you, but I know they wouldn't be b*tchy to you, how could they? I'll go down and kick some butt too if they are

  • That blows. So you don't get called until 5am the day of your shift? That would drive me insane.

  • Good luck whenever you start!

    Oh. I see. Thanks.

  • sorry you didn't start today. Good luck when you do.
  • sorry they cancelled today.but good luck for when you do start!!
  • well when you do start good luck.

  • imagemzjackson:

well when you do start good luck.

    Ditto.  Sorry they cancelled. Huh?

  • Good luck Amy. I hope its not as bad as your fearing. Hang in there!
  • What registry do you work for (if you don't mind me asking).

I know this might not sound ideal- but my husband works for Right Choice staffing which staffs the prison and they have MORE than enough work for him to work 2+ OT shifts / week and they are really cool to him. Being registry he was afraid of the caddyness, but most staff treat him really well- and they actually appreciate him more because he works harder than most of the state employees.

So that might be something worth considering if you're worried about getting cancelled or about mean people- because overall he said the people are really nice.
