Labor story

First off, this labor kicked my a$$!  F-bombs & STFU was thrown at one of the nurses during labor... I'm was so embarrassed that I did that Embarrassed

As you all know, I was having inconsistent contractions throughout the week. So, the plan was to do a whole lotta walking to get labor started.  On Sunday afternoon, we went to  Super wal-mart and walked & walked & walked.  After about an hour an and a half (around 5:30pm)  I finally told MH I had been having consistent & painful contractions.  So we headed out of there & went back home to eat dinner.  By around 7pm, the contractions were still at 10 mins apart....and they weren't that painful.  Nonetheless, we decided to head down to Loma Linda & drop my parents & the kiddo off to my brother's.  We hung out there for a while just killing time when I remembered that if we went past 8 o'clock, we'd have to enter thru the emergency room.

We got to the hospital at around 8:50pm and made our way to the maternity ward.  I was pre-registered, so I went straight on in.  They set me up in the triage room to determine if I should be admitted or not.  By this time, I felt really sheepish, b/c I felt like the contractions had tapered off & I wasn't feeling much of anything...but according to the monitor, I was having some strong ones!  Yay for high pain tolerance!  I was already at 5 cm & my water had yet to break, but they went ahead and admitted me.

Around 10ish, the dr. asked if I'd agree for them to break my water.  I was already at 7 cm, but the water bag was still intact...I agreed to it since I was already starting to feel the contractions...they were coming fast and strong!  It was really uncomfortable to be leaking the fluids...you'd move a lil & get a gush come out...ew Sorry if that was TMI.

The nurse asked me if I'd like an epidural...told her no...and in a sing song voice said to me --  you're gonna reeeee-grrreeet it!

Instead I asked her if I could have something like Demerol.  She kept trying to sway me to just get the epidural, but at this time, I was already thinking - No way, I've come this far. I'm not gonna do it.

She gave me some drug ( I forgot the name) that is pretty similar to Demerol...but she only gave me half of the dosage!   that thing was sooo freaken useless, it did not even take the edge off of anything! I felt it ALL!  I swear I even felt him as he went thru the birth canal...the pain was so bad on my hips & abdomen.

By 12ish, I told the nurse that I felt the need to bear down and start pushing...she checked me & said I wasn't quite ready. But for those of you that have your babies, you know...when it's time to push, it's time to push!

Five minutes later, I called her back in & told her I really wanted to push...she checked my again & lo & behold -- I was ready!

On the 4th contraction, the dr & nurses told me to stop pushing....and that's when the f-bombs & STFUs came out.  I knew the baby's head was out...they had me stop pushing just as his shoulders were making it's way out.  the receipient of my pirate potty mouth tirade was the nurse that was holding my right leg...I was yelling that it hurt and just basically screaming in my pain and she kept telling me to stop yelling and just breathe...seriously, all the breathing techniques that I prepared to use just went flying out the window when the pain was so bad.

On the 5th  contraction, he came slipping out! And as they were cleaning him up, the placenta came out...I felt that one come out too...eww..

I apologized to the nurse..she said it was ok - -it happens all the time, whew!  I was so embarrassed that I did that, esp. since she was so nice to me right up from when we first got there (not the same nurse that wanted me to get the epidural).

The baby has already pooped & peed, so we are clear to leave tomorrow! yay!

Re: Labor story

  • What a great birth story!

I don't remember swearing at anyone but there was the lab tech who took my blood before the epidural and I was having a contraction, she kept telling me to breathe through it and calm down...I remember thinking, don't you tell me what to do - who do you think you are??!!   Embarrassed

Personally, I love that you dropped the F bomb and some STFU's. There's something about a sailor mouth during delivery that just makes me smile. Thank you for sharing. Erik is adorable. I'm glad he's healthy, and you're doing good. What does Older Bro think?

I asked George and he says during the really bad part I was cursing non-stop but not at anyone just in general.

I seriously don't remember doing it but I guess it probably happens a lot. We should see what Dana says.
