Uh oh

Our homeowners insurance dropped us. Eeek. They did a surprise inspection to see if we had the fence and alarm system, during the inspection they saw our monster. Da da da duuuun! I don't get why Dobermans are high on the risk list, he's not aggressive at all. The chihuahuas behind us however, are very aggressive.

Re: Uh oh

  • Oh that sucks! Good luck finding another company!

  • Again - that's ridiculous!
  • It is but there's nothing we can do aside from get new insurance. I should send in the adoption papers we have for him that say "mixed breed"
  • BLEH!!!

That is soooo not fair!!!! DH and I want to get a Dobie!!!! We have two Min Pins and I think a Dobie would round out the mix!! LOL!! (I want a choc. female)

I don't think that breed specific discrimination is fair!!! (I don't like pitbulls and would never personally get one, but I think it's BS that people can't have them or get coverage because of it, and the shelters that put them to sleep just because the breed~! It's the owners NOT the dog!!!)

Another thing, it's thought that Chiuaus(sp!) and poodles, yorkies and pomeranians, bite just as often as big dogs, but the bites don't get reported as often because their size and nature of the bite (not as bad usually) and because people figure "they are cute"

Ditto.  Sorry Jenn, that totally sucks!  Best of luck finding a new insurance company.

  • Oh no!  I didn't know they could do that!  I'm so sorry!  Hope you find someone else, soon!

  • Shar-you want a chocolate one? Do you mean a red? Or Fawn?

The letter statest they have pictures of a dobie, rott or other dangerous breed. My poor dog, being discriminated against because of his color. If only his ears weren't cropped. It's ok. We found another place that just wants to see his vac. records. They won't cover us if he isn't updated on his rabies. That seems more sensible to me than his breed.

  • I didn't even know insurance companies did surprise inspecrtions!  I hope the next company works out fo ryou.
  • You got dropped because you have a dog? I have never heard of such a thing. My H grew up with a Dobie, the sweetest dog (he says), who ever roamed the earth.

I used to be prejudiced against pit bulls, until I started watching the Dog Whisperer. I agree that it is usually the owner's fault if a dog is aggressive, it's not all nature.

  • That is crazy. I am surprised to see that dobermans are on that type of list (I know apartments don't allow certain breeds).

My parents got dropped from their insurance because they had two catastrophes a few months apart and were considered a liability. They had no trouble getting new coverage though so hopefully you'll have the same luck!

  • That is so wrong! Not my Frankie. I'm gonna b*tchslap them.
  • My Pit Bull was by FAR the BEST dog I've ever had! I would bet that my Pug would bite someone before he would have! I HATE HATE HATE people who are ignorant against specific breeds! Stupid insurance!
  • My IL's have had 3 dobies. I've known 2 of them. They have been 2 of the sissiest dogs I've ever met. It's definitely the owners.

Sorry your insurance dropped you. Glad to hear you've already found a new company. Just curious...what was the company that dropped you?

  • Oh that sucks!! Imagine them thinking a dog that plays hide n seek (that was the cutest thing ever by the way) would be dangerous.

Glad to hear you found another company.?

  • Yeah, they are actually called a "red" but I say chocolate because with Min Pins when you get a "red" you get an all over red/brown with no markings, and it doesn't translate well to actual Dobies.

I REFUSE to get a Fawn/Blue, my female is Blue and her poor coat!!! UGH!!! Everyone who sees her asks why she is BALD! LOL!!!
