i'm so disappointed.
he was my #1. now he's nothing to me *sniff, sniff*
Seriously though, how could he do something like that when he is a role model to millions of children around the world? Doesn't he think before he acts?
Re: michael phelps
At least it wasn't steriods or crack!
I don't think this is a valid argument. It was an illegal drug, whether or not people think marijuana should be illegal. He is a role model for so many children and young swimmers so to 1- be doing something illegal and 2- allow himself to be photographed doing it was irresponsible and a major let down to all of those kids. I would have felt the same no matter what drug it was because it was still illegal. He should watch what he is doing.
He is just an idiot! Why would he go and smoke at a frat party??? Hello... everyone has a camera on their phone nowadays. I was happy that it was not steroids for the fact that the medals were won fair and square.
I am not completely against pot (I don't smoke it as it is illegal) but the fact remains that it is illegal and he put himself out as a role model, so I am sorry but I hold him to a higher standard than others. I think it is horrible how idolized he is/was and for him to do this....
Oh, don't get me wrong, I think it was incredibly stupid. I'm just saying, at least it wasn't steriods or crack!
I think the reality of it is that drugs and alcohol issues run rampant in this country. It's unfortunate how many lives are affected each and every day.
While it is ashame that Phelps chose to make bad choices he is an adult and he will have to suffer the consequences. I hope that he will be treated fairly and not receive any additional benefits or, on the reverse side, have more severe consequences because of his celebrity status.
He's 23 years old . . would you have wanted to be a role model at 23? Yes it sucks but he's only human and like all of us will learn from his mistakes.
Being able to swim really fast? I can think of better people to admire personally. Just my two cents.
I think the uproar this created is a bit ridiculous. I think it could of been a lot worse. He didn't rob anyone, murder anyone, etc. He's human and he's only 23 and it has to be hard to live your life under the public's watchful, judging eyes.
oh, i get that he's only 23 years old, but it's not like he didn't want the spotlight on him. he chose to be in the olympics, therefore he put his life out there to be criticized and to be a role model for people. if he gets in trouble for doing something dumb like that, good for him - he deserves what he gets.
Eh, he's a young 20-something doing what a lot of young 20-somethings do. Doesn't ruffle my feathers. Good for him to have some fun after all the stress and work. He put himself out there as an athlete, and the role model part kind of fell upon him.
FWIW, many of the swimmers I swam with in HS (one an Olympian) smoked pot. So did DH and most of his friends. And so do some of my current friends. Almost all of whom have turned out to be successful, responsible, contributing members of society. Pot doesn't necessarily make for bad people.
