well, it's the first thursday of the month. i'm not sure if anyone else is interested in doing these monthly again, but people seemed responsive last time around so i figured i'd post and see.
so, anything happening money-wise that you're happy about or proud of? any mishaps? i know a couple of people have posted recently about some positive things on the money front. what's going on with you?
Re: thrifty thursday?
$400 in car mishaps last month, but what can you do?
We're really trying to save more (all targeted, not just $ in the bank) and are doing ok. and we've added 30% to our SL payments...and we have a real budget now. Too bad our utility bill doubled and blew it up. I'm going to get us on the averaged plan as soon as we hit the 12 mo mark!
we did a bit of shuffling on the credit cards, moving some money from one to the other because it has a much lower interest rate, and after c makes the payment this month on the one we moved the money off of will be completely paid off. we'll still owe the rest of it of course, but it'll be at a lower interest rate on the other card and we'll only have one card with a balace. i do have another card with a very low limit that i have an automatic payment scheduled on, but i pay it off every month.
i had one of my grades from last quarter get posted late. i was afraid that it wouldn't get into the system before the deadline for me to submit for my tuition reimbursement (this friday) and i have to turn in all or nothing. the grade finally officially posted yesterday and i faxed in the info. it'll be a little while for them to process everything and get the money to me, but i'm relieved that it's all in and the deadline met. i'm going to use the money to put toward the aforementioned cc, so that i can knock it down a bit.
oh, and i signed up with mint.com and really like it so far.
I actually really happy with my $$ progress.
- I've transfered a bunch of cc debt to 0% until the end of the year.
- I'll be opening and ING account this weekend (hopefully) where I'll stash the $$ for the 0% card...earn interest...and then pay at the end of the year.
- K is really supportive of my budget plans and we're on the same page again which is a really big help.
- Oh and K got her financial aid approved which means she'll be able to pay the mortgage for another few months ;-)
Money. Probably something that I don't want to talk about but I'll post. I've been clipping coupons, scrimping penny's, and working really hard to stay on top of it all. Yet, the bank account we use pay rent got overdrawn by $300. From our pay checks each week a specific amount gets transfered to this account so at the end of the month we just write the check. We never check it, (mistake a.) I did check yesterday right before I wrote the rent check, and it's negative. All the money from the month gone, +300 in overdraft fees. I called the bank, and they said that it had happened in the beginning of the month around the 10th, and that it had been unreported for too long so there is nothing they could do. It looks like some got a hold of it, and went crazy on ebay. So all in all we are out about $1,000. No we don't just have this laying around so it will remain negative until Julie's tax refund comes, and it will eat that up, and what we've worked so hard to save last month.
End of Story. Okay I'm going to go cry again..
Wait - did someone get into your account? If so, you need to file a police report. Identity theft is a major crime and I think that if you can prove it was identity theft then some banks have to credit you back fees (or at least they will if they believe in good customer service).
I believe that someone got our checking account numbers, and went for it. None of our other accounts have anything fishy going on with them. I know that we should file a report.
That account is locked, and the rest of our accounts are being monitored.

Money...ugh. Things have been going great for us the only problem is that Jenn forgets that we have a few things automatically taken out of the bank each month and has a tendency to go off spending the money set aside for those. We got into a huge argument about it this morning because the account went negative due to this and she is mad that I had asked her to pay back the money to the account as well as the fees that will surely come. Sometimes I love having joint bank accounts (easier to pay bills from etc) but sometimes I hate it.
We don't really plan on doing much saving this month. It's a busy month with Jenn's birthday and Valentine's day and our 1st wedding anniversary so we've got several big plans and I don't mind us splurging this time around. Maybe next month will be better.
Money, money, and why money.....
Overall everything is ok. The student loans finally got in touch with my wife. Sooooo......... She has to make a payment of $710 a month which is a lot of money that is extra that we usually put in savings. Yet, they say she only has to pay for 9 months and then she can put it in deferment again.
I've improved my organization of our finances over the past month, so I'm pleased with that. I revamped our budget and figured out how much more we need to put in to our joint account to more adequately cover our expenses and the ING "funds" we have set up (targeted savings for baby, car, house, etc.). We have a tendency to short our savings goals to cover random expenses, so hopefully this new plan will keep us more on-track. That said, we are almost doubling the amount we'd been putting into our joint account monthly, so I think that may be a shock to both of our individual budgets.
Pretty soon I'll be signing S up for her first ING account (right now they are all under my name only). I did the "refer a friend" thing, so once I open her first account, she'll get the $25 new customer bonus and I'll get the $10 referral bonus, which is a nice little extra bit of cash for something we have been planning to do anyway.
