Recipe Sharing...Tonight's Dinner

This is a family recipe that goes back probably at least 30 years by now...but its easy and yummy so I thought I would share it with you lovely ladies...

Longboy Cheeseburgers

1 pack Pepperidge Farm club rolls (in the bread isle in a white box with green trim...sometimes they are hard to find so i usually stock up and freeze them)

1 lb. ground beef
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup ketchup/BBQ sauce (mixed)
onion powder (or chopped onion) to personal preference
1/2 cup cornflake or bread crumbs
1/2 cup milk
6 slices of American cheese

Slice club rolls into halves, lengthwise, arrange on baking sheet with inside facing up.
Mix all ingredients (I use my kitchen aid mixer to get it well mixed)
spread beef mixture evenly on the top of each club roll half
break American cheese slices lengthwise in halves.  Set aside.

Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.  In final 30 sec to 1 minute place cheese slice on each cheeseburger and let melt slightly before serving.

Makes 12 (open faced) cheeseburgers.

If I get a chance I'll post a pic tonight when ours are all done.  DH loves them and this has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid.

    lol too funny Lesli!

  • They DO look yummy!  I may have to try this sometime.  Do you think it would work on another type of roll?  and using ground turkey instead of beef?

I have used other rolls in a pinch since the club rolls can be difficult to find.  I've also used the Pepperidge Farms "hot-n-tasty" (i think that's the name) which are a little smaller but I think more rolls come in one package.  Other than those I think I've tried some other dinner rolls as well.  I haven't tried ground turkey but I think it would still be good!

Also...this mixture makes a nice meatloaf as well.  I made it one time months ago for DH and he said it was "bangin"...LOL.

  • Sounds like something Scott would like -- Thanks Jen!!!
