Poll-ish type question....
When you're asked at a store if you want to open their store's credit card, are you annoyed?
How often (considering this economy) do you actually apply for one?
I'll give post my reasoning for this question sometime tomorrow, I don't want to sway the results either way.
TIA!!

Re: Poll-ish type question....
I don't get annoyed because they are just trying to do their jobs. I worked a lot of retail back during my college days and we had employee challenges. For each credit account we opened for a customer, we got points or dollars (depends upon the store I worked at - it varies).
It adds to the fun of work and a slight competition amongst co-workers.
Had I never worked in retail like this, then I would not have the same mindset about it.
I have never applied for one offered by a store associates, considering the economy or not.
I do not get annoyed because I know that the sale people have goals to meet and are just doing their job. I usually just tell them that I am not interested since applying will affect my credit rating.
I only have one store cc (macys) bc I shop there really often. It is the only store card I have applied for/have.
In this economy especially, I am trying to seriously limit my use of cc's in general and just pay for things with the money I actually have. I tend to overspend (not like crazy, but a little bit) when I use cc's vs. a debit card or cash.
My answer is, freakishly, exactly the same as Smiley's.
I don't get annoyed until they ask, "Are you sure? You could save X amount of money." When I start feeling pressured I get annoyed.
That being said I probably have about 10 store credit cards!! I like the coupons I get from them, and I have a shopping problem!!
I don't get annoyed because I also worked in retail through high school and college. It was part of my job and we had a quota to fill each day.
I have opened up a few store cards (5) over the years for the free financing option (which saves lots of $$$ since I pay it off before the financing period is over). All of the cards are cancelled now except Sears (cause it's useful for house purchases) and Apple (which I just opened yesterday to buy DH a MAC). DH and I don't carry any balances on any of our cards and our credit ratings were great for when we bought our house last year. I think it depends on how responsible you are with them.
I don't get annoyed - I expect it.
We've taken advantage when we want 0% on big purchases - like furniture, our mattress. And I have Macy's & Banana Republic b/c I like the coupons/benefits to cardholders.
I don't mind, I just decline. We have a Macys card which is the biggest mistake you could make. Macys has charged us late fees for on-time payments. Charged us interest on an interst free card. Put a payment on the wrong card. Claim they fixed the problem then put the corrected payment on the wrong card. Claim they took the fees off but they still show up on the balance. We had this card for one year and had to call the customer service line in reference to 8 bills, each instance was about two to three call.
DO NOT GET A MACYS CARD!!!!!
