UPDATE: just not meant to buy a house

Well, they called back and said that they would agree to the April closing date, but because the wife is a teacher and can't take time off of work to move, that they'd like to have Saturday and Sunday to move their stuff out, and be out by 4pm Sunday afternoon.  Closing is that Friday.  I'm okay with that - especially because that particular Sat. is my best friend's bridal shower and I'll be out of town.  They probably won't even need that, since they're slated to close the end of March (but it's a home on Sheriff sale).

I just am not comfortable with being a landlord!

Re: UPDATE: just not meant to buy a house

  • I'm glad you were able to work things out.  I would never have gone for their other request either.  Honestly, even this would annoy me.  If the wife can't take off work, they should plan accordingly and move the weekend before closing.  Or just request that closing be rescheduled until the following Monday.  Oh well, what matters is that you guys came to an agreement and you found a house :) Congratulations!!
  • Thank you!!!!!

That's what I said... especially since I've been saving my vacation time for this (certainly NOT a vacation!) to take the week off to move in.  Our realtor even said about doing the following Monday, but I guess they're trying to close on both houses on the same day so they don't have to do a bridge loan...  But - at least they're keeping their homeowner's insurance on it for those 2 days, paying us $80 for the 2 days they're taking to move out (taking the mortgage and prorating it), plus doing a $500 security deposit incase there would be some damage while moving out.  But, they accepted the $164,000 w/ $5000 seller's help like we asked!  So that's really exciting.  I'm so nervous though, I could puke!  What a huge step!

  • That's much better news!  I'm glad that it's going to work out.  They should still technically "rent" from you for those three extra days though...maybe you can make some extra money off of them!
  • That's great news!  I'm glad you were able to work things out with them.  I hope the rest of the process goes well.

Well at least they're doing all of that! They seem much less  inconsiderate now (even thought they still are a little Wink).  That's awesome that they accepted your offer.  It is a huge step, but you'll be so glad when it's all done and you have you own house :) We definitely want to see pics when you get a chance!

  • I certainly will get some pics up here soon! :)

  • I'm glad you were able to get everything worked out! GL and congrats! The next few months will not be very fun ones! :/ I hated the couple of months leading up from the acceptance of the offer to the closing. I was so happy when they were over!

  • Glad to hear things worked out!  Good luck getting ready over the next few months.  It gives you plenty of time to line up moving help!
  • Congrats!!!!!

I wouldn't have gone with the first deal either of having them live in it after you close. DH and I are in the process of looking for a house now and its so frustrating to find something you like than have problems with it but I'm glad it worked out for you.

  • That's great that you were able to get everything worked out.  Closing details are such a PITA to get straight.  Our closing was scheduled then the previous owner needed it moved back because their new house construction got delayed and I was so anxious to start moving into our new place.  I hope the rest of the process is smooth sailing for you!!
  • Congrats! And nevermind my response to your other post; I should have read ahead. :)
