  Well, if you were to see my house, you'd know I'm the furthest thing from "expert" but the one thing we did learn was to remove the tape as soon as you're done painting that section of the wall...for some reason we waited till the paint was dry and then removed the tape (seemed logical at the time) and it'd leaked under the tape...but if you remove the tape ASAP, you'll get better lines.

  1. You should always give the room a second coat.  It's a pain in the butt, but definitely worth it.

  2. Remove all nails, screws, etc. on the walls (obvious, but a lot of people don't do this).

  3. If you're anything like me, you will need many, many drop cloths.

  Not an expert by any means, but if you are painting in a fairly neutral color, you can get white primer tinted to the shade you want.  Doing this helps prevent runs in the paint and (sometimes) prevents the need for a second coat.  Good luck!

  If you want interior wipeable walls, go with a semi-gloss, if not then flat will do it.  Also good quality paint IS worth the extra money!  Also good brushes, if not all the bristles will come out in the paint and you have to pick them out before it dries.  Get tape that is made for textured walls, helps with leaking.  Also if you tape, then prime, then paint your color your have little to no leaking under the tape.  (I've painted... a LOT)
