hi ladies. i haven't been on much between my two masters and my job and my internship, but since i'm taking crazy pills i thought i'd add the gym to my list of weekly duties. i got a planet fitness right down the road for me and $10/month is a GREAT deal, but i was wondering if anyone had ever used them and/or what the experience was like. i have toured and it seemed nice (and new!) but are there any horror stories or anythign i should hear about? any raves?
Re: planet fitness?
I really hope this doesn't come out wrong and sound offensive. If it does, I REALLY didn't mean it that way.
DH and I are pretty into fitness and physical activity...we bike 25+ miles on the railtrail regularly in the summer, and we both gym 4-5 days a week.
DH was under the impression that we would be intimidating to others at Planet Fitness, because of the distances we run/weight we lift. I think it sounds a little weird, but what do you girls think?
I've been the new girl in thew gym and I HATE when I'm surrounded by people who are leagues ahead of me. Is it like that? Or is it a pretty even mix of fitness levels?
Do they offer any classes or is it just machines/free weights?
Enkeli- I do admit that when I'm there sometimes I see people on the elliptical for an hour when I can't be on for more than 20 minutes but I am more jealous than intimidated!! Nobody has ever made me uncomfortable, and I know that I am not nearly in the shape I could be.
They do not have classes, I think that's why it's so cheap.
I go to the one in West York and I like it. We used to belong to LA Fitness a couple years ago, and I didn't like it there at all. I think because PF is smaller and not as "intense" as LA Fitness could be, is why I like it better.
I primarily just use the treadmill and other than this one time when 2 older ladies were trying to talk to each other, with me in the middle of them, I have had only good experiences there.
My hubby and I belong to one here in the Wilkes Barre area. We love it. I love that it is open 24 hours during the week and 12 hours a day on the weekends. We both pay the $20/month membership...mainly because we liked the idea of being able to use the tanning booths when we wanted. Our first year of membership will be up in April and we are not sure what we are going to do yet...continue with $20 or switch to $10.
I really like that they have Personel Trainers available if you have questions or need help with a machine. They do offer meetings withthe trainers where they help you design your own program...very helpful for those getting into the gym for the first time.
