Day Care

Does anyone know of any good and affordable day care centers in the area? I'm looking for under $200/month. We are expecting our first little one at the end of July and anticipate needing infant care for our baby sometime in the Fall.

I'm also willing to meet with people in the area who do in home day care or just watch a couple kids daily (stay at home moms, etc).

My husband and I live in Elizabethown and work in Lancaster (near Costco) so either of those areas would be considered.

I appreciate all of your help!

Re: Day Care

  • We just started looking into it and talking to people but I think we're looking at $800 to $1000/mo for infant care.  I think you'd be lucky to find after school care for a school aged child for $200/mo.  Do you know any sahm's that might be willing to watch it to make a little extra money?
  • I agree - I think you'd be really lucky to find anything under $800/month.  I worked in a daycare, and those parents were paying $1200/month -- for 1 kid.

My MIL watches kids out of her home up in Williamsport and she even charges $100-150/child a week because she's paying for food and supplies for the kids.

  • Look into the YMCA. I assume there's one in your area. They do charge, and it's more than $200 per month, but I'm told that they won't turn anyone away for being unable to pay the full price.  I assume that's all YMCA's.  A friend of mine told me that, but she was talking about a YMCA in a different area.
  • Did you mean $200/week?  In my search I've found that in my area, Harrisburg/West Shore, most centers run between $200-$250 a week, while in home providers run from $100-$150 a week. I don't have any suggestions on the Etown/Lancaster Area...but good luck with your search!
  • DS goes to Hildebrandt Learning Center in Mt. Joy.  They also have a branch at Masonic Homes in E-town.  It costs us $180/week, and I don't think you'll find a center that is much less than that in this area.  You may be able to find an in-home that is less expensive, but I would anticipate that it'll still be over $100/week.  If you think about it at $200/month, that's $50/week and if your DC is full time, that's $10/day, so I hope that you meant $200/week because I don't know anyone who would do the work for that kind of money!!  GL!
