Tameka,

My shower is scheduled for March 22. I wanted it a little early because I have that whole week off (my Spring Break) to get everything organized. I'll be really busy at work until my ML starts on May 14.

When is your shower?

My spring break isn't until April and I'm still not sure when I will go on ML.  The Dr. said I can go out as early as 23rd of April but if I go out that early I end up losing 7 days from my paycheck.  I'm thinking I will ride it out atleast those 7 days which puts me into May.  It's really hard though b/c in 3rd grade we have state testing. All is well right now, but you never know what the baby will do.  Oh yeah, plus we just got senority notices about impending pink slips.

My MIL is throwing a shower for her side of the family near the end of March and my mom and friend are throwing another in the middle of April.

Re: *Darbykat*

  • We're on a year-round schedule, which is why I get spring break earlier. If I begin my ML on May 14, I will only lose 2 days from my paycheck after my sick leave runs out. Our state testing window ends May 8, so I will be there for it. I think it will work out nicely, unless Rachel decides to make an early appearance.

Do you have disability insurance? I have it thru American Fidelity, so if I do have to go out earlier, it won't that bad.

BTW, I will be getting pink-slipped too, next month. I'm a 5th year teacher, so I am thinking positive that I have enough seniority to not be cut. ::crossing fingers::

  • Wow, it does work out nicely for you.  I keep hearing that I've chosen the perfect time and all of that, but with layoffs I'm not so sure .  The only good thing  about the timing (if I don't get slipped)  is that I will be off June, July, and most of August before the new school year begins (we are on a modified traditional schedule). This is my 4th year teaching and 2nd of tenure.  My board is entertaining eliminating class size reduction so really that will be the factor.  Doesn't it seem like we go through this every year?Angry  *sigh*  My disablity insurance is through CTA.
  • Less than 100 days to go! Can you believe it?

Yes, it's going by pretty quickly!

Yes, almost every year they talk of cutbacks, but I have never even been pink slipped. This will be my first time. Our district hasn't said exactly what they are going to do for next year, other than immediately freeze all extra funding (field trips, activities, etc.).

I've never been pink slipped either. We haven't had funding for field trips since the beggining of the year.

My district has done a lot of frivolous spending in the last couple of years. I guess they didn't see this crisis coming!
