  I use a can of chemicals.

  Our self-cleaning feature didn't knock my socks off the last time we used it, hopefully you have better luck with yours.  I would suggest maybe waiting for a warmer day or Spring time so you can have your windows opened because the smell can be horrendous.

  I'm embarrassed to admit we haven't cleaned our oven since we moved in two years ago. Obviously if there is a spill or something we wipe it up with regular kitchen cleaner, but other than that it hasn't been deep cleaned. I would probably opt for the self cleaning feature. I used to use oven cleaner to deep clean my bathtub (it's old and ceramic) and the chemicals were so strong I'd always leave with a buzz.

  I'll put cleaning my oven on my list of things to do....

  I haven't cleaned our oven that we put in a year and half ago but its on my list for this Spring.  I usually just do the self-clean cycle in the past in our old apartments and with our last stove that we gave to MIL.  I usually have found that the cleaners really bother my asthma but the self-clean feature isn't much better.  I definitely had to open the windows in our apartments when I ran it and it took a while.

  The self-cleaner worked!  It was a little smoky at first and I think I smell like oven but it worked. There is just a little gray ash at the bottom I need to sweep up when it is cooler.  I hate to admit this is the first time I have really cleaned the oven since we moved in!
