I just got home from a crazy long day at a synod retreat for DH, grabbed my laptop to check my email, and... nothing. nada. zilch.
Yes, folks, that's right - this girl right here is the proud owner of yet another dead hard drive!
MacBook was purchased 8.25.07. Original hard drive went 2.17.08; replaced 2.18.08 (poor DH, we spent his birthday wandering around the Towson Town Centre waiting on it to be repaired). Aforementioned replacement hard drive kicked the bucket today.
Seriously, who the hell manages to get the lemon MacBook that dies TWICE in less than a year and a half, let alone have the replacement die on the EXACT SAME WEEKEND one year later? ![]()
Gahhhhh!!! ![]()
Re: Vent: WTF, Mac?!
Yeah. DH is the hardcore Mac lover and was insistent that my computer be a Mac, as well. Truthfully, I LOVE my Mac, and can accept that I just unfortunately got a lemon. As irritated as I am by having to deal with this, I'm doing far better this time than I was last year when it happened and I lost everything - this time I have an external hard drive. It's just an annoyance now.
Beyond bizarre, though, that it happened the exact same weekend. We spent last Presidents' Day in Towson for it to be repaired, and will be doing the same this year, as well. On the bright side, there's plenty of shopping. SCORE!
... every single day of forever.
Jen - last time I was there (last Presidents' Day), it was all construction, too. Not sure what it'll be like this time! Regardless, still good shopping!
Kristy - mine has always frozen constantly, or gotten extremely sluggish, for no apparent reason. DH could never quite figure out why, because his MacBook Pro has never had those issues, and he's never had any issues like that with any of his previous Macs. Looks like it's just an all-around problem for mine. Anyway, I called AppleCare, already knowing that the HD was dead, since it was doing the same thing as last year (plus making a new clicking noise when you tried to turn it on!), and the guy tried walking me through a bunch of options... finally, when he had me put in the Leopard disc to try that method and it got to the screen of selecting a destination to install it and said screen was BLANK, that he finally went, "Um... that's really not a good sign."
Hey, really?! I could have told you 45 minutes ago that my hard drive was gone again! Thanks! One of Towson's Geniuses claims he has an idea what might be going on, so I'll be fascinated to see if he can fix it... Blah.

Ugh, I'm sorry Ashlee, that sucks. I hope they can take care of it for you soon! Good luck!! Towson Town Center is a great mall, still under some construction though but a lot of the new stores have opened.
I've started not to believe the superiority comments on Macs. I've had two fatal kernal panics on mine and a coworker had a horrible crash that took a month to fix.
I know, Stacey - I never had these kinds of issues with my previous HP laptop. Despite that, I still love the Mac system far more than Windows. My work laptop is a Dell, and I can't tell you how annoyed I get with that thing. My MacBook is making a great $1100 paperweight currently, but I'm hopeful we can get something worked out tomorrow with it. I do love how user-friendly it is and the fact that it doesn't get viruses, and nobody else that I know has ever had these kinds of issues... I just got some kind of fluke lemon, it seems.
They did think that mine had gone into panic last night... until we tried the Leopard disc route and came up with nothing. Oh well. And your poor coworker - that just sucks!
