Can you tell me about Lumberton, NJ?

We thought we had it nailed down to Mt. Laurel, but in looking online, we see that Lumberton has some nices houses, and the elementary schools score well on schoolmatters.org.  It's very close to Rt. 38, which is awesome b/c that means easy access to the city.  And it will be close to Virtua Mt. Holly and that's where DH will be working.

Can you tell me what you know about this town?

Thanks!

Liz

Re: Can you tell me about Lumberton, NJ?

  • My husband knows a few people that live in Lumberton and really like it. ?I haven't heard anything bad, but it seems like a ?nice, quiet town. ?
  • Lumberton is smaller Mount Laurel and a couple minutes further from the city. It stretches close to Rt. 70 up past Rt. 38 a bit. If your H will be working at Virtua it seems perfect.

The schools are fantastic and the community has a lot of sports and clubs for children. There are four schools (K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8) and two of them are relatively new. So many of the housing developments are absolutely beautiful. H lived there his whole life until we purchased our first home in a neighboring town. We have several friends that live there.

    What areas will you look?

  • I'm not even sure what areas on Lumberton.  We have been looking on Realtor.com (because we are currently in Atlanta and moving back this summer to NJ).  Most of the houses are just south of Rt. 38 it seems.  I like the idea of that area - it seems really quaint and peaceful, but hop on Rt. 38 and you can be in shopping mania or the city within minutes!

If you have neighborhoods that you know of, please throw them my way!

Thanks so much girls.  This is all good news.  I feel like we cant really go wrong with either town.  I'm excited!  We're coming back at the end of March for our first house hunting trip and need to be efficient.

  • The only area I might not recommend is the little cluster south of Rt. 38 and east of Eayrestown Road. Pretty much every town has a less desirable area and for Lumberton that really is a small section. There are no single family homes there though.

Bobby's Run, Stonebrook, and Maple Grove are great, but I'm not sure about the names of the newer areas that are so so beautiful.

  • I grew up in Mt. Laurel and highly recommend it.  Lumberton is a nice area as well.
  • The only downside- I do remember there being significant flooding there a few years back, not sure if they did anything to remedy the situation.

  • DH and I live in Mount Holly, which is on the other side of Rt. 38.  We happened to stumble upon our neighborhood when we were house-hunting and we're so happy here. There is lots of shopping within 5 minutes (Target, Home Depot, Acme, Shoprite, Lowes, etc) and a quick hop onto the Turnpike or Rt. 295, but it's still very much a small town without traffic or congestion.  I can't tell you much about the schools since we don't have kids yet, but I think Rancocas Valley H.S. has a pretty good reputation.  Feel free to page me if you want more info!  Good luck!
