Long weekend trip ideas....
So it looks like Nikhil & I both have a 3-day weekend in a few weeks. Anyone ogt any ideas for a fun trip in NM? I'm not coming up with a lot on my own. Maybe Tucumcati/Santa Rosa and do old Route 66? Anyone been out that way?
Re: Long weekend trip ideas....
Carlsbad Caverns is awesome if you haven't been - so neat and a totally different world down there
Alamogordo and White Sands is cool, but there's not much down there other than the park
Maybe white water rafting down the Taos Gorge?
I don't know if there's much to do in Tucumcari or Santa Rosa. Sorry.
You actually think someone here might know a place to visit that you haven't been?
I agree that Carlsbad has probably been my favorite NM destination.
This isn't in NM, but have you been to the biosphere in Tucson? I think that is really fun to visit.
SOMEONE has been places I haven't been to. I still haven't made it to Zuni/Ramah, or Portales. That's part of why I thought of Santa Rosa/Tucumcari. I always drove through traveling cross-country and supposedly there is some great old Rt 66 architecture/neon, etc.
We actually just did Carlsbad in Oct with my Mom. And Tucson is on our list to visit again - but we want to do a whole week. But I do think the Biosphere woud be nerdfully cool!
I am seriously LMAO that YOU posted this. Honestly, I can't stop long enough to even put a coherent thought together.
Ok really though, I have no suggestions. I'm lame. I haven't been anywhere. I'm determined to get DH to go rafting this year sometime though, so that's what I say you should do. And if he refuses, you guys are getting dragged along on a rafting trip w/me b/c I've never been and DH is a chicken.

Yeah, it deserves serious laughter!
I'm game to going rafting. But I like it to be a bit warmer. I don't like freeing!
We're going to go down to Cruces. Bacause we've never actually stayed there - we always go through it.
So any Cruces recomendations!
I have to agree about it needing to be warmer to go rafting
If you guys want to go in the spring you should post. I'd love to go again!
I've never been to Cruces.... which is kinda sad seeing that I lived in Socorro for 3.5 years.
Hmmm...I somehow missed that this trip was coming up quickly. Yeah, it's WAY too cold to go rafting now. I've been to Cruces once to check out NMSU when I was deciding on a college, but all we really did was look at the school and I don't really remember much.
I'm all for a rafting trip when it gets warmer! I just talked to DH and he's actually into it too (right now)...maybe all the DH's would want to come and we could make it a big group thing!

Sounds like a rafting trip is order this spring/summer. I think April is when the run off is at its peak and the temperature gets warm enough. AN dthen the summer when the water is actually warmish....
Yeah, Cruces is next week. We're going down to see our "nephew" who just transfered into NMSU. Right now we have Mesilla and the Farm Heritage Musuem and maybe one of the vineyards on our to do list. Should be fun!

I just got your new sig. Does that mean your 2nd round of CPA testing wasn't that great? That sucks rocks!

Good greif, I'm confused too. No wonder accountants speak Greek - you have too!
I'm keeping up the good thoughts that you passed round 2, and ace round 3 and teh redo of round 1.
Ruidoso! I grew up there and looove it!!
Also in Cruces (where I went to college) visit Mesilla, its really cool! We also really like Dicks, its a local hamburger place, it also has good mexican food! Oh and Andales! Mmm!!
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
Trust me, there isn't much to do in Portales. I love living here, but it's definitely not a tourist attraction!
Katy-
I've been wondering how you're doing with your Dad. SO good to see you!
And I like places that aren't touristy. Portales has Eastern and the Willaimson collection. I may come see you one of these days yet!
We also have the blackwater draw museum, and the peanut valley festival. If you come down, I will definitely meet up with you!!!
My Dad passed away on Feb. 6th, so we've been trying to adjust to life without him. I've been driving back and forth to Abq. a lot, trying to help my mom out with all the paperwork and financial stuff that comes up in situations like this. I tried to convince her to move to Portales, but she isn't interested <shrugs shoulders>.
Katy-
I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. My Dad passed away 5 years ago this month - I how hard it is to get used to not having your Dad along anymore.
You and your Mom are in my thoughts and prayers.
