Visiting NO - Your Advice Please

Hi, my husband and I are considering taking a road trip there in a couple weeks.

We really don't know anything about it there - except that there are some awesome restaurants and a cool aquarium we want to go to.

Please provide any ideas / cool things to visit there that my DH and me would want to see or do.

I'll be about 32 weeks PG so - nothing involving roller coasters or things like that Wink

TIA!

  • The New Orleans Jazz Fest is coming up in a few weeks. It's a lot of fun, but it will make hotel rooms more expensive those weekends. Some fun places to visit are Mardi Gras World, the D-Day museum, the Audubon Zoo, just wandering around the French Quarter, Cafe du Monde is a must for cafe au lait and beignets! Plus you can do some interesting people watching in Jackson Square right across the street. The steamboat cruises are a lot of fun, especially if you do one of the dinner cruises. There are a lot of great shops and galleries on Royal St and Magazine St. You can also ride the street car to see the city, and it will take you down to City Park where you can visit the New Orleans Art Museum. I'm sure some of the other girls will have great suggestions as well.

For food, Jacques Imo's is one of my favorite places, but get there early b/c it gets really busy! Irene's is yummy, Palace Cafe, Brennan's......I could go on and on about all the great places to eat!

  • Jazz Fest isn't until the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May. That's a couple of months and you may not be here for it.?

The second weekend of April is the French Quarter fest.

Mardi Gras is going on... well now. So you should be missing most of that and we do have St. Patrick's Day coming up which also has parades and fun around the city.

The zoo is fun and just walking around the quarter. The weather should be cool and nice so the heat shouldn't be a problem. There is a ton of things to do and see. I would suggest going to NOMA (New Orleans Museum of Art) and then maybe the DDay museum or Ogden Museum downtown. ?
