did you hear about the chimp attack?

dudes.

the chimp weighed 200 pounds.  the owner's friend came over and he attacked her and RIPPED HER FACE OFF.  the owner went after him with a butcher knife and called the cops.  when the cop got there, the chimp ran to the side of the car, opened the door and tried to get in.  cop shot the chimp.  and then apparently, it made its way back into the house where it finally died.

good gracious.

  • This story is so incredibly sad and scary at the same time.

    Where was this?

    Shollyanddan!

    jk.

I wonder if sholly is super upset about this.

  • it was in connecticut.

the owner was 70 years old and treated the thing like it was her kid.  i'll never understand why people think they can take a wild animal and make it a pet.  no matter how "gentle" or "sweet" it is, it still has those primal instincts!  ugh, this kind of stuff makes me mad.

and now this poor woman has NO FACE.

I'm willing to bet that Sholly will somehow get involved in this.  She is very passionate about chimps.

    This is so upsetting.

  • This is just so sad.

  • Ok the first time I read this I read chipmunk not chimp....how? no idea! That was definitly MORE scary than a chimp!

I agree that this is very sad on a few different levels. :/

  • I side with the chimp.
  • Get a puppy, not a chimp. Sheesh.
  • Have you heard the excerpts of the 911 call? It was so freaky. At one point the owner was begging 911 to have the cops kill the chimp because the situation was so out of control. All the while her friend is screaming in the background.

  • On the the radio this morning (AM news) they said the chimp was influenced by the herbal tea and Zantax found in his system. Indifferent
  • I only feel sorry for the chimp. :(

  • So sad!

Everytime I hear about chimps, I always think of ShollyandDan.  I remember Sholly telling us that the "chimp community" is a very small one, and  everyone pretty much knows each other.  I wonder if she has the inside scoop on what really happened.

  • primates as pets = bad

  • Absolutely horrific.

I heard the excerpts! Honestly one of the worst I have ever heard! You can hear the panic and absolute fear this lady had for her friend! I can only imagine what she was thinking at the time!

And while the friend didnt deserve to get her face ripped off..Im not surprised it happened nor should the chimp be to blame in this at all. Its an effing wild animal. I mean really...what do you expect?! I hope people will learn one day that you cant keep these kinds of animals as pets! Its not fair to the owner or the animal!!!!

  • If a pet requires a specialized permit to own it, that should be a good enough reason for you not to keep one. It always amazes me when people who own exotic animals (primates, tigers/lions large snakes, etc) that end up attacking always act so shocked and surprised... hello! A 200lb animal (on Xanax and herbal tea no less) is not going to respond to a 70 year old woman saying, "No Travis, don't do that."
