I'm sort of new to the area. I grew up on the west coast and moved here a few years ago. DH grew up here in south Jersey and his whole family lives around here as well.
My question is, is it customary for bridal/baby showers to be "surprise" showers around here?
My MIL is just sick that I know when my baby shower is because apparently showers should always be a surprise. Is this the usual thing around this area? I'm beginning to think that maybe it's a regional thing. Where I am from, surprise showers are not the usual, but around here they seem to be the norm.
Re: Shower Question...
Welcome and congrats!!
I know when my shower is, and 2 of my friends who are pregnant know when theirs are also. I also knew when my bridal shower was. I'd say it's "customary" here for them to be a surprise, but nowadays - it's definitely not out of the ordinary to know the date.
Ok, it does make sense then that it's a regional thing. I've been to a few showers around here since I moved, and they were all surprises. My bridal shower that MIL threw me was a surprise one, and I looked a mess... I decided not to wear make-up that day.
She is making such a huge deal about the fact that I even know about it. I was just wondering if she was beign wacky or I'm just not in the loop about regional shower etiquette.
