I was watching Food Detectives the other night and they told you were natural food colorings came from. Natural red dye is from squishing little carmine beetles. I'm not a fan of eating bugs.
I realized that even though I'm grossed out, this won't deter me from eating things that may have the dye in it. Kinda like the whole geletin thing. I love eating jello but find geletin disgusting.
Anything you think is gross but still would eat?
Re: Red Dye = Ew
i wish i hadn't opened this post. now i know why there are so many anti-red velvet eaters.
and i love me some red velvet cupcakes.
Red velvet = yummy
Red cake frosting = oh my gosh I want to puke!
I don't think Red Dye #5 (which is in virtually everything red) is exactly "natural." I think we're safe.
Sorry I ruined it for you. But you can be just like me and still eat it but be grossed out at the same time.
This doesn't affect how I feel about red velvet!!
