Very serious post - tell me not to buy more

I just had a cig. Embarrassed

It was the last one out of the box.

I've tried quitting before, it hasn't worked.

I've never really said it "out loud" on the Nest.

Tell me not to go out and buy another pack!!  I do have to go buy dogfood so I'm super anxious about passing a gas station bc I know I'll have the dirty urge to go in and buy.

I really want to quit.  Crying

Re: Very serious post - tell me not to buy more

  • I'm off to buy dogfood.

Wish me luck!  I'll tell the truth about whether I bought some or mot.

  • With the way my day is going, I'm about to come join you in your smoke.

    Signed,

    Your horrible friend.

  • The successful quitters I know all quit cold turkey.

Don't buy anymore. Consider yourself a non-smoker from this moment on, not someone who is trying to quit.

Ditto. I have never known anyone who "weaned" themselves that was successful.?

  • Ok I made it!

That's good to know that you know cold turkey quitters.

    I am a non-smoker right now.

    Smile

  • I tried quitting a million times and the only thing that worked was cold turkey with lots of Wintogreen mints.
  • Don't do it, D!!!

Cigarette smokers have a higher risk of developing several chronic disorders. These include fatty buildups in arteries, several types of cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (lung problems). Atherosclerosis (buildup of fatty substances in the arteries) is a chief contributor to the high number of deaths from smoking. Many studies detail the evidence that cigarette smoking is a major cause of coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack.

  • I know I'm already kinda screwed.  But I'd at least like to avoid the tube-in-the-throat look later in life.
  • D! I am so proud of you! You slipped up but that doesn't mean you have to keep smoking right?

It's like the whole diet analogy. If you screw up one day and have a cupcake does that mean you should just give up and eat a dozen cupcakes? NO!

  • Yes for not giving in and buying another pack!
  • You're already on your way! Keep it up D!

  • Very MM choice, D. I am proud of you.??

  • Most damage to your lungs can be turned around fairly quickly if you quit and don't smoke anymore.

One of DHs friends who is a smoker had a serious heart problem on Thanksgiving.  He collapsed on the floor and could not move for hours to even get to the phone.  Luckily his daughter came home and was able to get him to the hospital.  He quit cold turkey and has not smoked since.  He says he feels so much better and his voice even sounds better.

Just do it and try to distract yourself if you get any cravings.

  • This just blows so bad.  I remember how CRAPPY I felt when I quit.  I couldn't even breathe.
  • i'm proud of you for not buying more, d.  smoking is a nasty, stinky, dirty, trashy habit.  you don't want to be associated with any of those words, do you?  compared to those, vinegar is pretty awesome.

  • Thanks ladies.

I hate smoking.  It's so embarassing.  People that pass me by give me dirty looks.  It's expensive too.

I guess I shouldn't have popped open a bottle of wine.  Alcohol makes me want a smoke.

  • Better to chose to quit now then to be forced to quit because your body decides to quit on you!  My Dad is 60 and has been diagnosed with Congetive Heart Failure and is in need of a bypass due to numerous clogged arteries and limited circulation throughout the body, but can not have one until his body becomes stronger.  He is on breathing treatments and oxygen masks and his skintone is a lovely shade of grey.  Not a pretty thing to watch happen to a loved one.  This is a combination of many poor habits in his life, but the main one is having smoked since the age of 14.

    Sad

Thanks for sharing that with me.  I know you hear all kinds of stories and read them, but it's different when you hear them from people you know.

  • It's all I could do to try to help out.  The patch is sold over the counter if it's a nicotene related addiction.  He was seen by a counselor when he was in the hospital, and she recommend having lots of lollipops and carrot sticks or celery around.  Best of luck, and don't do this for anyone else, do it for yourself!!
  • Smokers are disgusting.

    Stop.
