I completely forgot about the whole re-registering my car until I got pulled over last week by a cop and was shocked when he told me my tags were expired. I bought my car last December and I haven't received anything in the mail to renew my tags and haven't really thought about it, either.
So I went to the DMV yesterday to get it taken care of and it was 415 FREAKING DOLLARS to renew my tags because I was late. They had my old address on file, which makes no sense, since I went in last June to change my name and address with the DMV, and the woman told me just because I change it with the DMV doesn't mean it transfers over to registration records.
Seriously...WTF. I understand it is my responsibility to remember my tags, but what the hell is the point of changing your address at the DMV if it doesn't go to critical notices like this? ::headdesk::
Re: DMV blows
I've gotten pulled over the last 2 years in a row because of expired plates. One time was after summer school let out, and I was pulled over as all my summer school kids walked by.
I'm so used to MI, where your plates expire on your bday month. So every year, you remember to do it. I have to really force myself to remember when to renew mine now.
ugh, such a pain in the ass. ?i'm usually guilty of paying the registration, receiving the sticker, and then not actually PUTTING the sticker on.
last time, the hub got pulled over and the cop made him get out and put the sticker on right then and there. ?in front of his office. ?i sure got an earful about that one.?
Me, too. And at least they always sent it out on time, too!
