What web sites to look for kitty adoptions?

Hi ladies,

As my nestie besties know, I recently had to put down my kitty of 12 years. I'm really missing him - which I know is normal since it's only been a little over a week.

I'm kind of entertaining the idea of adopting new kitty when I get back from vacation in 2 or 3 weeks.

I dunno- we'll see how we feel- I'm still mourning my old kitty big time.

But as I entertain the idea, what websites would you recommend I look and what places would you recommend I visit?

I know there are pet adoptions at petsmart every week and of course there is the shelter.

Where else would you suggest for kitty adoptions?

I have to wait a little longer before I actually visit unless you want a hot mess on your hands. Yesterday I was petting the neighbors cat and burst into tears. Indifferent   Not ready yet- that's why I wanted to entertain the idea on line first.

Can I take you up on your offer in a couple weeks?

  • Poor Yahpee. ?But I'm glad you're thinking about eventually adopting a new furball.
  • Of course!! I'm there every week. :)
  • I second petfinder.com  That's where we found our little dog.  :-)
  • I did not know about your cat-I am so sorry.  My sister's cat passed away on Christmas eve and she was heartbroken.  She kept her alive much longer than most people would have.  Her immediate thought was that she never wanted another cat.  Within a couple of days she changed her mind.

One of the techs at her vet's office is constantly bringing cats home to foster them.  She had been caring for my sister's cats for about a year at her(my sister's) house.  My sister has "trialed" a few cats that she had fostered to find the perfect fit.  She knew immediately she wanted to keep one of them and then decided she wanted two.  She did not click with one of them so she was able to try out another one.  She is so happy with the two she has now.  If you would be interested in hearing about the cats she is fostering let me know-she knows their personalities very well.  She is in Irvine.

I was at a Petsmart this weekend and they had some really cute, playful full grown cats.  DH won't let me get another one for now but I know that if I ever get another cat it will be an adult and I will adopt from a shelter/rescue.

  • HI HB:)

Yea- I've been pretty heart broken about it. We decided to put him down when we found out he would have needed several shots daily and weekly visits to the vet.  He had lost quite a bit of weight (7.5 lbs) in a short amount of time for a cat (just under 2 years) and was always tired and lethargic. I thought it was just because he was getting old- turns out he was pretty sick.

He would have been miserable with shots and vet visits. He wouldn't have understood what the heck was going on- not to mention his disease wasn't curable and the treatment wouldn't have guaranteed a comfortable life for him. It was the right thing to do for him.

     I just miss him tons.

I don't' know what I'm looking for- I think hubs and I are too busy to adopt a kitten  so we'll probably go with an adult kitty we'll see.

Just talking about it makes me feel kinda guilty since it hasn't been that long that we put him  down.

I think I'll be more ready in a few weeks- for now I'm just entertaining the idea.

I'd love your sisters info for sure. Do you have my email? If not you can use this one: NestieFitty At gmail

  • I can let you know if the "chihuahua shelter" I volunteer at gets any kittens in during the next month or two. ?Just keep me posted on whether things work out w/ LYB's shelter.
