Can i vent about the wedding i am in?

So, I am in a wedding in July for a college friend.  I am really excited and honored that she included me in the wedding!

However....she selected our BM dress and it was $198.  My other friend who is also a BM found it on netbride for $113, but she wanted to order it from her bridal salon.  So, right there we wasted $80 just to order it from her bridal salon

Now, my friend (the BM)  just told me that she asked the bride this weekend what color shoes she would like us to  wear and the bride told her that she has picked out a specific pair for us to buy so our shoes will match.  The dresses are floor length so no one will even see our shoes!   I dont have all this extra money to blow on ordering from her bridal salon, matching shoes, etc.

I know that you should expect to pay $$ when you are in a wedding and I am completely fine with that, but I would hope that my friend would be mindful of people's money situations and try to make things as affordable as possible.

Ok, vent over.  I just had to get that out there

Re: Can i vent about the wedding i am in?

  • ewwww....that really stinks! Feel free to vent about matching shoes and overpriced bridal goods anytime!
  • How about you say you got the correct pair of shoes and you're all ready for the big day and then the night before Austin went ballistic on them and they are ruined and show up with a pair you already own?  I'm a good friend like that.

  • I agree that signing up to be a BM comes with a price, which is why I had to decline an offer to be a BM recently....

BUT... it doesn't mean that you shouldn't be able to find discounts and work within budgets, like you said. I think it stinks when brides REQUIRE shoes, a certain dress, etc. I'm all about individuality... I didn't want my BMs to look like uniformed helpers!

  • That stinks! I tried to make it as easy as possible for my BMs that were in my wedding. I wish I knew about Netbride before I had them order their dresses. But I didn't make them wear specific shoes...even though my dresses were tea length. They just had to be ivory.

  • Some brides are just plain nuts.
  • That stinks!!! I called every place that carried the BM's dress I wanted to get them to give me a cheaper price and I went with the cheapest place and as for shoes I just said gold and that's it.  I hate when brides get too pushy with it...I'm in my brothers and she wanted us to have the same shoes but we talked her out of that and she even tried to "suggest" how she wants me to wear my hear.....to me each of my friends, cousins and sister are individuals and I don't care how they wear their hair or what shoes they wear and I would't want anyone doing the same to me.

     Isn't being a BM's fun....god I hope I don't do anything like that to my girls

  • Thanks for "listening," girls!  I am so excited to be in the wedding.  I guess she is just different than I was. I tried to find the best deal for the dress, had my girls wear whatever silver shoes they wanted, switched hair places bc of affordability, etc.
  • That really stinks, Krista.  Sounds like the bride wants things the way she wants them and doesn't want any input.  Maybe just tell her that you can't afford to buy a pair of shoes that you're never going to wear again.  LOL  Maybe put it a little more gently, but I think it's stupid to make you wear shoes that match when you're not even going to see them.
  • I am definitely going to suggest going with the same color instead of the same exact shoe.  Apparently my friend (another bm) suggested it and the bride told her that that she had already picked the shoes out, but the are "super cute and comfy...and we can wear them again!"

They are from Nordstrom so who knows how much they cost...

  • That really sucks a lot.  If it helps I'm in a wedding in December that I had to buy the dress for last September, and I'm almost positive that it won't fit me right now.
