Slumdog Millionaire - book or movie first?

I've heard great things about the movie, and I got the book the other day.

Which should I do first - read the book or see the movie?

Re: Slumdog Millionaire - book or movie first?

  • Uh...this is a first for me, I wasn't even aware it was a book!Embarrassed

    Movie was great, though!

  • I always try to read the book first if I have the opportunity, so if you actually have the book, I'd read it before seeing the movie.

I've just seen the movie though -- definitely good.

  • it only takes a couple of hours to watch the movie.

  • I would probably read the book first if I were you. But that's just mostly because I'm too cheap to pay $10 to watch a movie in the theater.
  • I always read the book first, unless it is a book written based on the movie.  Does that make sense?
  • This makes sense.

I probably won't be able to wait for the movie, I'm so antsy for the book (and i think the book came first)

I'm free Sat afternoon if you want to go.  We can watch a matinee.. which means it will be cheaper!

  • Oh, and maybe we can go to a lunch OCRW!  (I'm on a budget these days, so the dinners are typically out)
  • I would read the book first.

I just saw the movie couple nights ago and it was very difficult to sit through the first half hour.  So. Sad.  Now I won't be able to read the book knowing what went on.

  • I didn't even know it was inspired by a book until I went to the movie and saw the credits. From some of the book reviews I have read the movie very loosely follows the book, so I think you'd be fine watching the movie without having read the story.
