Presidential Speech

Is anyone else watching?

I feel really, really proud to be an American right now.  He is such a great and motivational speaker.  I especially got chills when the extended applause occured for the support of the troops.  I also got emotional because DH announced to me over the weekend he will most likely be deploying at the end of the year.

*chills*

Re: Presidential Speech

  • He is such a great speaker! He seems so confident- that is reassuring.

Does your DH know where he will be going and how long? A big thank you to him!

  • DH is unsure yet -- his current unit is already in Iraq, but by the time he had signed up with the Reserves, there wasn't enough time for him to get his training in to go with them, so they are discussing sending him and a few others who are in the same boat with their "sister" unit (for lack of a better term...) out of WV.  It's all kind of up in the air for now, but it's looking like Afghanistan at this point (where he has already deployed once before).  No idea on how long.  I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself!
  • My BIL is in Afghanistan now. He is an officer and is in a compound, so he is pretty safe.  I am sure you have to prepare yourself!  I admire military wives- it must be difficult.

  • It isn't so bad now - he's just doing the one weekend a month, 2 weeks a year thing.  But if he gets deployed again, I don't know what I'll do.  We'll be in a brand new house and dealing with a new puppy (I'm nuts, I know!)  It's bad enough they're sending him to Albany in April for 3 weeks (he gets back 5 days before we close on our house!!!) for martial arts training/instructor class.

His last deployment was my junior year in college when he was active Marine Corps.  That was awful.  Everytime I watched the news - I cried.  Everytime I missed his call - I cried.  I spent my time in class and planning our wedding (even though it was still a year and a half out at that point! lol)!!!

He decided in September he really missed the Marines and told me he wanted to finish out his "inactive Reserves" doing "active reserve" things with 2/25 here in Harrisburg.  He loved it (I knew he would) and he just signed his re-enlistment package with the Active Reserves for another 4.  If it makes him happy, I can't take that away from him.  He's truly my hero.

Please tell your BIL I am so thankful to have him serving our country... I can't give the military enough kudos!!!!! :)
