i just cleaned out my iPhoto library.

i've spent the last couple of days moving pictures over to my external hard drive and making back-up DVDs of them all, and i finished yesterday.

just now, i moved all the pics to the trash and then emptied the trash file.  i totally gulped as i hit "ok" - but i hope my 'puter will be a little faster now.

14,000+ pictures.  in a year and a half.  yikes.

Re: i just cleaned out my iPhoto library.

  • I did that a few months ago, what a pain! You didn't do too bad if it only took a couple days! Is your computer running faster?
  • i guess it would probably be a good idea to reboot, huh...  duh!

  • w.o.w.!

  • That would make me nervous.

I have an external HD that I still haven't used yet but I really need to.

Please update on whether your puter is faster now!

  • Did it work?

I'm really curious, because cleaning off my hard drive didn't work that well for my macbook. No

  • I'm curious . . . do you like iPhoto? I haven't really used it because it bothers me a lot not to know exactly where the files are stored :-P

  • I desperately need to do this.  My hd is so full I can't even install the updates to my macbook right now.  Uugh.
  • I had all of my wedding pictures on my computer.  When I downloaded them I had multiple copies of each.  I finally deleted about 4000 pictures off of my computer about a month ago and it made my computer much faster (of course I was almost full so that's why I did it).

Now I just need to go through my pictures of all of our outdoor adventures and keep just the good ones.

I have put some of photos on CDs but I still can't delete them.  I am paranoid that I did not do it right (though I can see the pictures when I put in the CD) and think they will be gone forever.

  • my mac is set to automatically download to iPhoto whenever i connect a camera, so i don't really have a choice.  i always export copies to the external anyway, and then when i need a file i know just where to find it.

redundant, i know.  but that's me.

i rebooted, and so far so good.  although i haven't really done anything major to test the speed yet.  the hub's the one who always complains about how slow it is, so i'll let him give the final word.

  • Wow, 14,000 photos? Hopefully they're all safely stored and your computer will pick up speed!
  • I would be nervous to delete too. I hope it works.
