Poll: The Economic Crisis
Are you worried?
Do you think you have enough in savings just in case something happens to your job or YH's job?
What steps have you and YH taken to ensure your financial stability?
Do you think the stimulus plan will work? Why/why not?
Re: Poll: The Economic Crisis
Are you worried? I wasn't TOO worried until the other day when MH mentioned he was...then I got worried.
Do you think you have enough in savings just in case something happens to your job or YH's job? We have enough in savings for MH to not work for a year and us be ok. We have enough for about 3 months if we're both out of work.
What steps have you and YH taken to ensure your financial stability? We've decided to put all of his paychecks in savings, rather than checking, so we will have that extra money. We're also paying off as much debt as we can quickly to get rid of payments (such as my car).
Do you think the stimulus plan will work? Why/why not? Not quickly enough, but it might work over the long run. I'm not happy about $4billion to protect snails in California or whatever amount it was for that. I think some of the ideas that were in the plan previously were better - such as letting home owners who are in GOOD standing refinance at 4% because that would put a hundred dollars or more in those peoples pockets every month that they would be able to spend which might help stimulate.
Are you worried? I guess my feeling is whatever happens, happens. Me worrying about it isn't going to help the situation any.
Do you think you have enough in savings just in case something happens to your job or YH's job? We have enough in savings for about 6 months of living if one of us loses our job.
What steps have you and YH taken to ensure your financial stability? We are paying MH's car loan off asap and last night I paid 1/3 of it off. By the time the baby gets here it will be gone (not bad for just getting his new car in Aug!) After his car loan is gone we will be saving everything we possibly can.
Do you think the stimulus plan will work? Why/why not? No I really don't think it will. Obama keeps talking about how his plan will create all these jobs...but at the same time he's bashing certain industry's which is causing about the same amount of people to lose jobs (this is a sore subject for me!) I give him credit for trying and he's trying to tell people what they want to hear but I think it's a lot of false hope.
Are you worried? Nope
Do you think you have enough in savings just in case something happens to your job or YH's job? We have enough to live on for a few months and DH would get a few months severance pay if he was laid off
What steps have you and YH taken to ensure your financial stability? Not worried about it. I am going to play the lottery tonight though (171 million!!!)
Do you think the stimulus plan will work? Why/why not? Not sure but I am positive it will be better by the end of the year.
Are you worried? I wouldn't say worried, but I am being more cautious just in case something happens to one of our job's.
Do you think you have enough in savings just in case something happens to your job or YH's job? We are getting there, but I we would like to have more saved.
What steps have you and YH taken to ensure your financial stability? We are sticking to a budget, we re-financed so our mortgage payment is lower and starting next month we are going to start living off of DH's salary only and putting my salary right into savings.
Do you think the stimulus plan will work? Why/why not? I can't even comment on this, I don't have the energy today.
Are you worried? There's also a measure of worry in the back of my mind.
Do you think you have enough in savings just in case something happens to your job or YH's job? Nope - working on it. After our tax return, we'll have enough to cover about a month and a half of me not having my job (I'd also get two months severence.) If we both lost our jobs? We'd be in trouble quickly, I think.
What steps have you and YH taken to ensure your financial stability? Budgeting more, sticking tighter to our budget, focusing on savings and paying down as much as possible (more aggressively).
Do you think the stimulus plan will work? Why/why not? I'm not sure - I haven't read it just because I haven't had time where I could focus on it. I think the economy is likely to still get worse before it gets better (everything I've heard/read is saying 2009 is basically shot; 2010 is looking as bleak or worse for certain industries, but only slightly improved over 2009 in some areas.) I think there are SO MANY AREAS they could really do something in... and they're just not.
Are you worried? yes and no. Yes as the country as a whole but no for us. We are both pretty secure in our jobs and there hasn't been any talks of potential job loss in our industry.
Do you think you have enough in savings just in case something happens to your job or YH's job? Yes. And if need be, both of us would flip burgers to make ends meet.
What steps have you and YH taken to ensure your financial stability? we re-financed, have no CC debt, and have been watching what we spend. We're not at the spending point where we'd like to be but we're working on it.
Do you think the stimulus plan will work? Why/why not? Some of them will hopefully stimulate the economy but I don't think there are enough provisions for individuals. A lot of them are geared towards the failing industries. I know people think this will work miracles but it's not. Things take time and it will be a few years before we bounce back.
