MH just called to tell me about this discussion on the radio he was listening to.
As announced, today President Obama is announcing his plans for troop withdrawal. Some woman called up as part of the discussion and stated she didn't really want HH to come home! (That's the shocking part.)
Since HH is actively in Iraq, the gov't pays for their insurance, etc. And she doesn't want him to come home because they'll have to pay for all the things the gov't takes care of while he's FIGHTING A WAR.
I couldn't believe that and MH said one of the deejays actually said "I hope your husband has no chance of hearing this... for you to say you'd rather him be gone and his life daily in danger because it's more COST EFFECTIVE...?!"
WTF is wrong with some people?!
Re: Shocking: Radio Discussion
To play the devil's advocate (and I am NOT agreeing with her - if MH had to go there I would have been a wreck the entire time)...
Her husband is either a Reservist or a National Guardsman. If you are in one of those two branchs, you don't get the health insurance like the regular military branches (AF, Army, CG, Marines, Navy) because the serviceman isn't actually on duty 24/7. He probably has a job somewhere like a department store or service department when he's inactive so the money she's getting right now is probably about 2 or 3 times what she was getting when he was home, plus they have health insurance. With the economy the way it is right now, I can see why she would want that income and the health insurance.
That being said, she's crazy, because if her husband dies, he's not coming back and she's not getting any health insurance anyway. She should probably start weighing the pros and cons.
And, as my friend at work just said, "She's an enlisted wife, which means she's probably got someone on the side while he's away.." (It's a running joke - my friend is an officer's wife and she said about 80% of the enlisted wives have someone else while their husband is overseas). She's probably exaggerating about that number but we joke about it alot since I was an enlisted's wife for awhile.
