Ferrets?

I don't have ferrets, nor do I ever want them.

I just saw a commercial with pets in it advertising bounce and this commercial had a ferret in it too and the ferret was running around the house. Do people really let ferrets have roam of the house?

I know two people who had ferrets, and yes, the animals had run of the house. They always stank.

Yes. Ferrets are great if you have the means to care for them. They are very smart and require a lot of stimulation or they are very, very destructive. My dad had one and he did not care for it properly and it was very, very destructive. It also got into everything and got lost in the walls a few times. I know it isn't my pet of choice.

Hm... learn something new every day. I never know ferrets had run of the house.

They definitely aren't my pet of choice either!

I don't really like any of the small furry animals...rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, etc...yuck. I'll stick with dogs and cats )

I think people who like ferrets are a different breed. I think they're like "dog people" and treat them all special and like family. Not me.

They don't bother me (mind you they aren't dogs and I'm a dog person for sure) but then my Aunt and Uncle had them while I was growing up and they took awesome care of them. My uncle built them this big house to crawl through and they used to bring them to my Gram's on Sundays when the family would be visiting. I think if it wouldn't have been for that experience while growing up I probably wouldn't think of them as being a pet!

At one point in my life I owened two ferrets (see my little photo to the left). They were so much fun! Its not good to let them run around your house 24/27 because they are very curious and like to get into tight spaces. We kept ours in a large cage and took them out to play each day (in a bedroom with the door closed). Unlike hamster ect, they should not be kept in a cage- no matter how large all the time.

As for the smell, mine didn't stink unless I got lazy with the littler pan. Ferrets are actually very clean animinals by nature and are easily litter trained. You can also purchase the stuff called bio-order that you put in their water to make their musty order go away. We also took our ferrtes to the vet each year to get shots.

I really miss owning a ferret, they are so much fun, and much like pitt bulls, they are really misunderstood.
