I've been on the fence about this and it's a silly thing.
The previous owners of our house had a young child and in their craptastically ghetto-rigged walkway patch job, they wrote the kid's name in the cement.
FIL and DH redid the walkway, and I found the small chunk with the kids name on it. My FIL must have put it aside and didn't destroy it when they demo'ed.
I get sentimental over incredibly stupid things and I was thinking of sending the piece of walkway to the former owners. I'm thinking they may find it nice a nice gesture. But on the other hand they could take it as, "Ha-ha! We tore out your crappy sidewalk job!"
Thoughts?
Re: Wierd or cool?
Eh, I go the other way -- if I'd have wanted it that badly I'd have yanked it out of the walkway before I moved.
I absolutely see your point -- but it just isn't my style.
Hmmm....the sentimental side of me thinks you should give it to them. The cheap side of me is wondering how much $$ it will take to get it to them. Do you have their new address and is it on your way somewhere and you could drop it off? Or do you need to mail it? I can only imagine the post office's reaction to you mailing concrete...
Either way, keep us posted! I have to agree with a pp that the board has been a little dead lately...
It's small. Probably about 6 or 7 inches long and 2 wide. The way they propped up the side of the walkway, it was integral to the structure at that point so they couldn't take it with them.
At settlement they had matching sweatshirts with the kid's name on it. It was across the chest like a name brand, and I was thinking I had never heard of it before. But then they kept saying the kid's name I realized what it was. If they didn't seem so into their kid I would have just pitched it and called it a day.
They have an odd last name and they told us what area they moved to. So the stalker aspect seems low.
It's been 2 years so it would be out of the blue.
Honestly, if it were me, I'd just pitch it and forget it. It's only cement - it's not like some special effort went into crafting a unique piece of art.
ROTFLMAO
Yup, matching sweatshirts. They did it to look like a skater-kid type brand like Hurley or whatever. When we checked out the attic when buying the house it was boxes and boxes of stuff with the kid's name on it. And he was about 1 year old. They seemed rather intense. Granted I don't have kids so I don't know how fanatical I'll be, but they seemed to have taken it to a whole other level.
You're right. If it was a handprint or something that would be different.
Having calmed down a bit, I'd send it without question. As a parent who wouldn't ever consider wearing anything matching with my husband let alone a custom sweatshirt with my son's name on it, it would be something that I'd appreciate.
Sounds like they already have a lot of stuff with his name on it...
