Hey! How is the new house? Isn't homeownership fantastic??? Where did you buy?

If you decide to do some renos and need any recommendations for contractors let me know. My parents used a FANTASTIC contractor and we were going to use him for our kitchen and basement before we decided to do it ourselves.

**I'll probably get your response tomorrow... Jeff wants to go play MarioKart right now. :)**

  • I love MarioKart!! Toad is my fav :)

The house is great. It was built in 1993 and was very well taken care of, so it doesn't need much. The previous owners actually added a lot of upgrades which makes our job easier!  Our main project is the bathroom. The floor is the original tile and it is UGLY and old and just doesn't look good with our stuff. The bathtub is cheap looking and yucky. We are having bath fitter come to give us an estimate, but aren't sure if we want to use them. We'd really love to put some nice tile on the walls in there.

Other than that, it's just small things that seem to add up- curtains/rods, new knobs for all of the cabinets, backsplash and paint for the kitchen, landscaping outside, etc. But considering we are still living on just Mike's income, we're taking it slow right now!

I love the pics of your house- you've decorated it so beautifully! Are you guys living in the city or outside of it?

    Have fun with MarioKart!! :)

  • I just read on the other board about how expensive bathfitter is! Maybe we won't be using them!
  • Hey! Thank you! We love our house. We are outside of the city. We are in York Suburban SD.

I understand about all the little things adding up! We are still on Jeff's income, and then mine when I am able to sub teach, but right now I can't, so it is just his. Luckily when we moved in my ILs gave us a really hefty housewarming present and told us to buy something for the house that will last, which is where we got our bedroom set. And the stimulus package from last year paid for our couches and coffee tables.

Our house was built in 1929 and we have an UGLY bathroom (actually two ugly bathrooms, haha), so I understand what you mean! That is actually not our biggest project. Ours is the kitchen, half bath, basement, and attic right now and then the main bathroom last. The attic only needs to be carpeted, heat added, and painted... that is easy. The kitchen is what we are working on this week, and probably for the next few weeks as we wait for our countertops to come in and our flooring to come in.I can't wait for it to be done! We just got done with the demo and are taking a break. We will start painting soon! Wahoo! The previous owners thought it was OK to paint every single surface the same color, so the window trim and the doors are the same color as the walls.

Bath fitter is definitely very expensive. It would be cheaper just to replace the tub. My parents hired someone to replace their tub (they went out and bought the tub and surround for the tub and then the contractor did all the work). It wasn't half as much as bath fitter. If you want contact info let me know... this guy does great work! He did my parents' front porch and it brought the house value UP!

  • That's awesome! I love old houses. They have such charm! It sounds like you and Jeff are handy enough to take care of all of the projects. When you're finished, could you come over here? lol jk. Yeah I told Mike about how expensive bath fitter is and we are definitely not having them come to do the estimate. We probably won't get around to that project until summer time at the very earliest, but the contact info would be awesome! Thanks!
  • No problem! I will get it from my parents and send it to you over myspace.

BTW- Toad is my favorite too! Although I've been playing with my Mii lately because I unlocked it and it goes faster than Toad.
