  • Just got the blackberry curve yesterday.  I'm still trying to figure everything out on it, but so far I like it.  My sister has the pearl and says she likes it.  I had the env which was good for texting because of the full keyboard, so the env2 probably is, too.  Don't know anything about the glide, sorry.
  • so, If you were getting your ?new every 2?, which would you prefer?

    Free- http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/blackberrypearl8100   (8130 in pink)

    or

    $69.99- http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/05/review-samsung.html

  • Not a fan of the pearl. If I am not mistaken it lacks a full keyboard which makes texting a pita.  I think the bb curve is fantastic though.  I bought dh one and will probably upgrade to the curve in a few months.  Looked at the new blackberry too with the touch screen.  It has some technical issues though which made us cross it off the list.  Know nothing about the glide.
  • Hmmm...probably the glyde, the touch screen intrigues me.  I'm also a sucker for free, though.
  • I have the LG Dare and I love it. It's a touch screen w/ full keyboard.

You are right, Anna, about the pearl's keyboard which is what I am concerned about.  However, it is free and the curve is $100+, which is more than I am looking to spend.  Grr...

  • I'm up for mine in April and I can't wait.  I loathe my cell phone.

I'd go for the free phone.  Did you know that if your phone plan isn't more the 79.99 a moth that you only get $50.00.  It use to be a $100.00

  • I have the Voyager (the one with the touch screen) and it blows!  I hate hate hate having the touch screen for a cell phone...it's not a responsive as it should despite my numerous attempts to calibrate it.  It also randomly shuts off on me when I'm on the internet.  I will never again get a touch screen.

My sister has the BB Pearl and loves it.  It does have a full keyboard and she has no issue pumping out 500 texts a day (I'm probably not too far off on that #).  My friend at works also has the BB Curve and likes it but I don't have too much experience with it first hand.

  • I had a BB with a similar keyboard to the Pearl - it takes some getting used to, but once you learn to type with it, you should be OK. I prefer the Curve, too but if you want something free - go with the Pearl.

I have an older - no frills Verizon phone. So I'm no help!

  • ditto Summer2008...

DH and I both got the Dare w/ our renewal and we both love it :)

  • Thanks so much for your input!  I think I am going to go with the pearl bc it is free, however verzion's website is not letting me add it w/out a data plan!  I will have to go to the store tonight to see what is up.
  • I am pretty sure that all blackberry phones require the data plan.  We have one for dh's phone and it is $30 I think.  I believe when I upgrade my phone it will cost us an additional $30 for mine as well if I understood correctly.
  • Yup.  They require you to have a data plan and the cheapest one for BB is $29.99/month, which kind of sucks.  H has a Motorola Q, which also has to have a data package, but the only one available for that is like $40 something per month.  That really sucks.
  • I would go with the free one.  My DH has a phone that required us to add the data package.  I did then just deleted it a month later.  I called customer serivce and said I didnt want it, remove it and they did.

  • Yes, I am too thrifty to pay for a phone!

mrs.kaityjane, that could be an option with the data.
