I hadn't heard from my auto insurance company in a bit (a bill, an email, something) so I went online to check, and they cancelled me for non-payment.
I pay everything online and I guess January's payment didn't take and they canned me as of 2/25. Thanks for the notice. Appreciate it. Muchas gracias.
I really liked the agency I dealt with which was why I was sticking around, but the rest of the service was going down hill fast and ticking me off.
Luckily the car is in the shop on not on the road so it wasn't being driven.
I didn't even bother to call them to fix it. I called DH's insurance company (something I had been meaning to do anyway) and turns out we'll be saving about $800 a year.
Umm, yeah...OK-thanx-buh-bye old insurance company.
Re: Take that insurance company!
My sister's insurance did something similar to her. She didn't get her bill in December and she didn't notice with the holidays and what not. She got a letter from the company in January stating that she was past due on her bill and needed to pay so much $$ in order to keep her policy from being cancelled. She had the money, but you would think they would call you the next week or something if they are going to cancel you for a late payment...
Do you have Homeowner's/Renters with the same company? I know having our home and auto policies together with the same company saves us a lot.
They are going to do this to you. And it's going to be a PITA to straighten it out. By now PennDOT has already been notified that you were uninsured. They will wait until you have forgotten all about this and then they will send you a notice that you have until such and such day to send them proof you were insured or that your car was not on the road. Chances are, you will send them this proof and then, once you have forgotten all about this, they will send you another letter. This new letter will say that you didn't send them the proof, even though you did, and they will tell you that you have until such and such day to send in your tags. You will contact them and try to explain things. They'll say "Okay, send us your proof again!". You will send them your proof again, and once you have once again forgotten all about this, you'll get another letter saying they didn't get your proof and you need to send in your tags. This could go on for a very long time. At least this is pretty much how it went for us when we switched DH over to my insurance. It took months to get things straightened out. I think I sent them the proof that there was no lapse in coverage at least three times before they finally got it. It's coming. Don't say we didn't warn you
Please don't do this. One of the functions of my job is handling complaints that come from the governor's office or from some random representative or senator. It drives me nuts when people go right to their rep or whomever without even trying to resolve a problem on their own first. It wastes a lot of people's time. It's one thing if you've exhausted your other options and aren't getting through to anyone to help, but it shouldn't be anyone's starting point.
That's pretty pathetic that PennDOT gets so many of these complaints that they have to have their own unit in the Capitol! Doesn't really surprise me though
