Am I not allowed to vent?

I was talking to a friend at work today and I happened to mention to her that my belly is starting to get heavy and uncomfortable. Out of the blue, one of our secretaries said "No one told you to get pregnant. What did you expect?"

WTF???

First of all, I wasn't whining or complaining, I just happened to tell my friend what it's like because she just started ttc. I get asked all day long, every single day how I'm feeling and now that I answer honestly I get this?

Second, this was a private conversation. My friend and I were walking out of her office together when I said it, so why this person thought her 2 cents was warranted is beyond me.

It really got under my skin. I have probably said 2 words to this woman since she came to our school a few months ago, so now I've decided I don't like her. Am I just being hormonal again? What do you think?

Re: Am I not allowed to vent?

  • My first thought..... BIOTCH!!!

My second thought.... GIRL!!!!!.... I don't know what to tell you, because many people feel that I am not allowed to vent at all about being pregnant, because we were infertile and should just be happy to be pregnant, after all.... I cried about NOT being pregnant, "so suck it up".

Run into a woman suffering from infertility, and they will say "You should just be happy that you are pregnant!!"..... yeah.... well....

The truth is, being pregnant is HARD!!! My FIL tells me every time I see him, that if men had to carry the baby, that we would be extinct. LOL!!!

Sorry about that lady, it was a little complaint.... you didn't say "I can't believe that I will never get to just live for me again, stupid baby".... c'mon lady lighten up.

Invite her into the bathroom with a constipated pregnant woman, and see if she changes her mind! LOL!!!

  • I can beat that Sharra. I almost don't want to have any more. And I had one of the easiest pregnancies on Earth. It just takes a lot out of ya.

Irma-You are not being hormonal. That comment was out of line. You have every right to vent. And it's so truie...you get asked a million times a day. You have every right to answer honestly.

  • Kristy- I don't know if we will have another Huh?

I know that we won't (or, right now I won't) go through treatment again.

This pregnancy has been tough, through the severe M/S and all the complications.... I guess we will see.

Either way... that lady was just out of line, pregnancy related or not, MYOB!! Surprise

  • Dang, what a b*tch! You're not being hormonal at all. She's lucky you didnt say something if you ask me.
  • Oooh I have a coworker JUST like her! She eavesdrops on every conversation and adds her 4 cents. One coworker was talking to me about Credit Card debt- and she started telling her how she should stop buying her kids clothes- my coworker wanted to punch her, lol! It doesn't even sound like you were venting- you were just saying how you felt.. and seriously- you're pregnant, you're allowed to feel crappy A LOT!

Don't worry about her--- just stay away so the peanut gallery can't chime in.

Don't worry about tomorrow. After all, today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Take each day as it comes...one at a time. Midnight Baking Adventures Blog
  • Thank you! I was so taken aback, I don't remember what I said!
  • She was out of line. Sorry you had to deal with it.
  • Ew what a b!tch!  First of all, she was not even a part of the conversation, how dare she!  Maybe she's just jealous that people ask and care how you are everyday.  Secondly, no matter how you got to be pregnant, being pregnant is hard work, and  it completely warants a complaint here and there.   I've decided I don't like her either.  Wink

  • What an insensitive %*@!
  • She was totally out of line!  And I don't think that what you were doing was necessarily venting...you were just saying how you felt.  She needs to just mind her own business!
    Lilypie Fourth Birthday tickers
  • That is horrible! She was way out of line, I'm sorry!  : ( I can't believe you only have 2 and a half months to go! What's your EDD again?
  • No matter what you say people will be rude to you. I had people who made comments like your co worker so instead of talking about the bad I would just say "oh I'm doing good" and than I started to get "oh really cause you look horrible"

I started imagining slapping those people and it would at least make me laugh?

  • I think that lady should shut the %$#@ up and mind her own dang business......but maybe I'm being hormonal too Wink.
  • She sounds like a total Biotch! I would be pissed too.

THERE!!!! PROOF!!! That no matter what you do/say, when you are pregnant or a new mom, the world thinks you are public property!

    UGH!!!

Yes, I get so sick of answering the "How ya feeling?" question. I usually just say I'm fine, because I know they really aren't interested. But if someone told me I look horrible, I'd like to think I would make them feel stupid! That's just downright offensive and inexcusable!

But I'm glad to know it's not just me being overly sensitive! I tend take things very personally. Thanks everyone.

  • I would have told her STFU and mind her own business
