House seller taking a long time to respond?

This seems weird to me, but that's because even as a first-time buyer, I know a 24 hour request for response is pretty standard.

We submitted an offer at 5pm yesterday. I was bcc-ed on the email my agent sent to the seller's agent with the offer. At 9:15, the seller's agent responded that she was confirming she had received the offer. One day response time written into it.

Of course I've been on pins and needles all day.

Our agent just got back to us and said the seller's agent said (after he called her) that she presented the offer to the seller, but the seller "hasn't gotten back" to her yet, so she'll touch base tomorrow. Um, isn't it her job to make sure the seller DOES make a decision? Also, our agent gave her a heads up at 2:30 yesterday that he would be submitting an offer and asked if she could respond by today and she said, "I'll try!"

I'm not entirely sure what the standard wait time is for a response to an offer. When we put the offer in for our house we had to wait a week because the seller left for vacation the day after she listed the house. However, I think that once the offers are presented to the seller, there is a time limit. Check with your agent to see what the deal is. Good Luck!!

We submitted our offer on a Wednesday knowing that they were going to look at the offers on Thursday and they accepted that same day. Definitely follow up with your agent, and good luck!

We put an offer on a house and it took 3 days for the seller to respond. Her response was to submit another offer. For the house we just bought, it took about a week. We submitted the offer took a few days for them to come back with a counter and then we countered. It then took a few more days for them to accept our counter.

Just be patient and hopefully you hear back soon. The seller might be waiting to hear back from someone looking over your offer.

The seller on this home was horrible about responding. And, no, the seller's agent's job isn't really to force a decision from the seller. My seller was completely out of touch about what she legally had to do to sell the house, what any other buyer would request of her outside of her legal responsibility and what she could get for rent if she chose not to sell. Mine was the first serious offer, and she had to be educated by her realtor, but she was still super slow because she was mad about the things she had to do. Her realtor had urged her to do some of it before she put on the market, but this seller didn't believe her. So, while I didn't care for her realtor at all for, she did have her hands full with this seller. Not much she could do except continue to try to educate the seller.

The seller simply wasn't responding to the realtor's emails and calls. It was a slower process for me than typical, but I certainly don't think a couple of days is out of the norm.

We finally got a counter back today. Which is more than what we want to settle for (they countered our price, the seller concession request, and the closing date). We'll see where we go from here.

It was just annoying because there was no communication. If the seller's agent had notified our agent that they weren't going to have a response ready by the deadline and wanted an extra day, that would have been completely fine. But she just ignored it and my agent had to call her to ask what was going on.

Our agent has been really good, though, and really on top of everything.

We'll see if we decide to counter their counter offer. The house needs a lot of work, which is most likely why they priced it the way they did. Not sure if they know how much work it needs, though.
