Teacher gift ideas

Hopefully the new nest doesn't eat this post!

We just found out yesterday that dd's daycare teacher is leaving next week. We adore her beyond words. She has actually beeb dd's teacher for 2 years. Dd loves her and we have been so lucky to have her!

She actually is starting a new job as a kindergarten teacher in a different district so we are very happy for her!!

I'm scrambling to get together a gift now. I thought we would be doing something later this month when dd leaves!

We are either going to give her cash or a gift card (thinking amazon or target). I heard through another mom that she had said money would be tight this summer and she has to buy stuff for her classroom. That family left a few weeks ago and just gave her cash.. Any thoughts on gift card vs cash? Cash feels weird but why not I guess!

I was also thinking of putting together a little basket of school supplies for her room...is that stupid? I saw her school's parent supply list online so I was thinking of getting some of those so she would have extras. Anything else that might be good to give a new teacher?

Any other ideas? Dd wants to draw her a picture and we were going to give her a pic of her and dd from graduation.

  • I think I'd do a giftcard (or maybe 2 different kinds Target and a grocery store or maybe for gas) and then a little basket of school supplies.
  • I agree, cash would feel weird to me, too.  I would do target or somewhere that she can use to buy school supplies if that's what she ends up needing.

  • Why not a visa gift card then she can use it wherever she needs to....

  • I love the basket idea! And I agree with the visa gc. I got one when I left dc for a FT teaching gig. It was nice to be able to use it anywhere.

  • Thanks ladies! I forgot about visa GC. We used to do those for teachers but they had activation fees and would add up when you are buying a few. But if its just 1 that's not bad. I'll have to look and see if they still have fees though,
