Places to stay for Congress Hall Wedding

So I am way behind on making reservations.  We have a Friday (the 13th) night wedding next month at Congress Hall in Cape May.  I am trying to figure out the best place to stay.  It seems like most of the B&B's down there have a 2 night minimum stay even for that part of the late season as well as some of the hotels and we are only going for the Friday night.  Does anyone have any recommendations for places around there?

Re: Places to stay for Congress Hall Wedding

  • My husband and I stayed at the Willbraham Mansion B&B on a Saturday night last August.  They normally have a 2-night minimum for weekends, but if they aren't booked, they will make an exception.  I'm pretty sure we didn't book our room until the Thursday before. You'll probably get better luck with that the closer it gets to Friday the 13th.

  • We went to a wedding at Congress Hall a couple years ago and had trouble finding somewhere to stay (it was also Labor Day weekend so every place had a 3 day minimum and was super expensive). We ended up just sucking it up, and driving home. We got home at about 3 am, but it was worth it b/c we saved about $400. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but maybe driving home afterwards is an option?

  • I would look on Groupon.  Sometimes, they have offers there.

I would also look at staying off shore, and even taking a cab in to CM.  May be more cost effective.

Is the hotel booked?  I am sure it is very pricy to stay there.

Sept is still beautiful at the shore, and is still very popular.

  • The hotel is booked.  I was really debating staying there because I have heard it was beautiful.  I may try calling and seeing if they do have any rooms.  Driving home is an option since I went and got myself knocked up again :)  But the closest we could do would be my parents house in Collingswood which is still like just under an hour.  There is an after party which we are definitely going to, so I'm not sure I want to make that drive at like 2 am.  Maybe since I can definitely drive, I'll look for something just off the island where things are a bit cheaper.
  • I stayed at the Beach Shack earlier this summer.  Only two or so blocks from Congress Hall right on the beach.  I really liked it there.  They are also owned by the same company that owns Congress Hall if the bride did a block of rooms maybe they could extend the discount to the Beach Shack.  Worth a shot.
