Disputing item on credit report
How do I dispute an item on my credit report? It is a medical bill and it is not mine. I've contacted the collection company 3 times (on the phone) to request proof that the bill is mine, they say they will get it from the medical clinic and email it to me, its been 90 days and I've gotten nothing from them. How do I now get this off of my credit report? Do I need to request proof by mail and then send those requests into the credit report people?
Re: Disputing item on credit report
When I disputed items on my husbands credit report I did an online inquiry directly through Experian, Equifax & Transunion. Doing it this way was nice because I could go online & check the progress and once their investigation was done (give them 30-45 days) they sent me an email with the outcome and a new credit report. They do the leg work of contacting the company who says you owe them money and making them responsd and since they are responding directly to those companies, your credit report gets updated immediately.
Good luck! It takes time and patience, but so worth it.
