Oh the anxiety...(Vent - Feel free to join)

I have 3 weeks until I go out on leave. My last day of work is August 30th. We just hired someone last week to cover me while I am gone, and possibly permanently if I decide not to come back. Well it's been a week now since we offered her the job and HR still hasn't given a start date...I have no idea when I'll start training her, or if I'll have enough time to teach her everything that I do. On top of training someone to be me, I also have to write a final report for a grant, train one of my current coworkers on how to run one of my meetings, and finish up my duties as team captain for our Relay for Life team. All while losing my mind to these damn pregnancy hormones! I can barely do my job as is anymore, let alone all these other things I have to get done in the next few weeks. And I am getting no sympathy from my boss (who is the delegating type, and pretty lazy IMO). Ugh, I feel like screaming! I just got to remind myself that it's only 3 more weeks. Then I get to relax and wait to meet my daughter.

Anyone else having some anxiety or want to vent?

  • Yeah I'm trying to relax, I guess it's just hard to imagine being able to train someone in that little amount of time. I just need to breathe, it's not worth the stress and it will work out somehow.

  • It will work out, and it's in HR's hands. Maybe the person they are wanting to hire hasn't given them an answer yet, or HR has to do some other things before they can bring the newbie on board. Your work has had plenty of time to prepare for your leave, so it's on them if your replacement isn't up to speed.

  • When work was dragging its feet with my work load during maternity leave I just kept on telling myself it is not my problem.

  • For my new job, I was trained for 4 days before she left for good. There are still some things that I'm "winging" it because she never got around up telling me the information - three months later.

Yup. I figured, if they weren't prepared for my leave, that it wasn't my fault. I am not even going to be there to "suffer the consequences". I did everything I could/asked of me, that's all you can do.

  • Thanks ladies. I guess I just feel responsible for anything I'm involved in and I need to learn to let things go.

  • Just thought I'd add that it's awesome you get so much time off before you EDD!

Yeah they offer up to four weeks before you have the baby, so I took full advantage of that! :)

No it's separate. I'm not sure if its something offered through the state or just my employer, but it's nice.
