Dr Who - NBR

Re: Dr Who - NBR

  • I was hoping they would cast a female.  I wonder why the Time Lords are always male.

If time lords live forever, why can't they just look like this forever?!

  • There used to be female time lords in the old series.

I was hoping he'd be ginger as well.

  • Oh, and I also wish they could somehow keep it a secret until the regeneration. I think that would be very cool, albeit very difficult.

  • I think there have been female Time Lords, but I think it would be weird for the Doctor to regenerate as a woman.  Are Time Lords like those frogs that can change sex whenever it's necessary?
Of course, this is a world in which Capt. Jack can get pregnant as a man, so maybe it wouldn't be that weird.

I reserve judgement on the new guy until I've seen a few eps.  I loved Eccleston and hated Tennant at first.  Then I loved Tennant more that I'd ever liked Eccleston.  Smith won me over as The Doctor in his first ep, but he's not My Doctor, so I won't be as sad to see him go.
  • No one will ever be as good as David Tennant.  I'll have to see how the first few episodes go.
  • David Tennant.  Siiiiiiigh.

  • I have only caught a few of the Tennant episodes. I am thinking about watching this. Any opinions on where to start? Should I start with the show in the 1960's or start with the 2005 show?

Seriously. David Tennant will always be the Doctor to me.

I'm a little sad they didn't cast a hot youngish Doctor, but I actually think that this Peter Capaldi guy could end up being really great. Looking at still shots I was disappointed, but after watching the little BBC Doctor reveal video, I can see it.

Did you guys know that he actually had a small role on Doctor Who already? He was the Roman dude in season 4 in the Fires of Pompeii episode.

Yeah I saw that and he played a small role in Midsomer Murders (I love British TV shows... )
I am usually skeptical for an episode or two then the new dr always wins me over!

I would say start with the 2005 stuff. I have tried a few times to try the "classic dr who" but honestly am not a fan of most older TV shows with the exception of MASH. Most of the people I know who like the classic stuff grew up watching it and the friends that have gotten into it recently like the new stuff only.
But if you think you might like the classic stuff check it out! I know netflix has pretty much everything on their instant queue classic episodes and the newer ones! They even have most of the specials (usually around Christmas time there is a special episode)!

  • I would start with New Who (2005) to the present, and then go back.  The Classic Who eps are very different.... the eps are shorter, but there are more multi-ep arcs, there are many episodes that have been lost, so continuity is slightly harder to get.  Plus, it's older tv, so you have to get past some really cheesy effects and such.
I think the New series is easier to get into because it has a more modern format, if that makes sense.

I thought that was cool.  That was Karen Gillan's first ep too.  They reuse people fairly often, and only occasionally make a connection (Eve Myles was in an 1800s ep, and then they cast her as Gwen Cooper in Torchwood, and the characters are supposed to be related)

Plus you get to see David Tennant a lot sooner.
