    I shared this with my sister.  Her argument for spelling the younger one's name Adysen is that Addison is a boy's name, because of son on the end.  Yeah, I don't know about you, but with all the stupid names in the world I can honestly say I've never met a man named Add or Addi.  Same goes for Madison.  Never met a man named Mad or Madi, and I've never met an Addison or Madison that was a boy.

    She named the older one Kytt.  It gets pronounced Kite, so she'd change that one to Kitt instead.  Not that Kytt in any iteration is a stupid name even for a Trans Am, but that it's mispronounced.

  • sassypants527 I just died laughing.

    My cousin wanted to name her son Rocko. She got so much grief from family, that she wouldn't tell us the baby's name until he was born. She settled for Brock. Baby #2 is Colt. Not Colton. Just Colt. ::facepalm::

  • Love this, I hate the leeeeeee names a girl at work named her daughter Brilee because (he husband is brian and she's kelley) and she's not even with her husband anymore.... classic
  • I totally gave my sister grief both times.  I told her that unless she was a talking car that belonged to David Hasselhoff, Kytt is a stupid name.  As for Adysen, I told her it was like 50 Cent, but 30 cents more (fiddysen and adysen).

  • My parents made up my name by combining a grandmothers and aunts name.... I have gown up cursed. #1 has made me get my name mispronounced EVERYWHERE by EVERYONE. My in-laws cant even say my name right. Everyone calls me E to keep it simple - except my family. For some reason everyone always thinks I mis-spell my name and fix it for me.... so sweet, except my name isnt in fact Erin or Ellen or Elaine or any of the other names that start with E. SO because of this DH has agreed that ALL of our kids will have simple names that have stood the test of time and wont be gender confused since I get that a lot too - people think I am a man (which by the way Im not...). I know my parents thought it was beautiful and creative but after all this time I am a little bitter about it.

    I hate to say this but her kids are going to always have their names mis-spelled... Esp over the phone stuff - its probably going to be more confusing then cute or pretty after a while.

    It already is.  The older one gets called Kite all the time.  I have the same problem with my own name, so I tried to convince my sister not to do it but to no avail.  My folks spelled my name phonetically, but people eff up the spelling and the pronunciation all the damn time.  It's Deena, sounds just like it's spelled: Dee-na.  I get Denna, Deanna, Deneen, Dina, Deana, Dana, Dinah...it's ridiculous.

    Here's where I confess that I don't plan on being pregnant for years and I have a baby name list saved in my head lol. But it doesn't break any of those rules. People my age seem to be coming up with weird names all over my FB and I just don't get it.

    Seriously. There's a Brayden, Bradyn, Braydenn, and Braiden amongst all the kids from people I went to high school with.

    Yeah its just horrible. I think my kids will have the most normal "boring" names possible. Like Elizabeth or Veronica or David or George. Something that you cant mess up. DH loves the girl name: Cortana from Halo. I said no - I wont do that to my child!

    My DH & I have had our first son's name picked for years now. It's not in the top 50 names but it's not an uncommon name either.

    I swear, all the kindergarten classes for the next 10 years are going to have 20 versions of Kaiden, Braiden, Aiden, Jayden, Hayden.  Ick.  Most of the Austins are in the 5th grade now (like my nephew, Austin...).

    I love it too! There are so many nick-names you can have from it, and its a pretty name!

  • I am SO snobby about baby names, I know this, but I just hate all the trendiness with names. I like how the article said a name should "stand the test of time." If Joe Shmoe just made this name up for his kid last year... probably not your best bet. Particularly if Joe Shmoe added y's or unnecessary double letters :)
  • Confession: I can't stand boring, traditional names. So glad I don't have one and would never give a kid one. Names can be uncommon without being weird.
    My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

    It's 1:30am and had to hold my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing out loud, loudly! {which, of course makes me want to laugh even more.}
