Re: Clare! How's Texas treating you?

  • HI Emmy! TGIF!

Thanks so much for the note asking. Overall, it's going ok! It's very hot - the heat index was hitting around 108 this week (temps around 99). Even the locals are saying this is unusually hot for them (I hope they're right!). We picked a good time to move here. lol

The younger two start daycare next week, so this week was a bit rough trying to remote work with them. It's too hot to send them outside (plus the backyard is about 1/10 of what we left back North - and no sandbox or swingset!), so they have serious cabin fever. Gavin starts school on the 21st. They're having a ball with all of the geckos we have, though! (Did you know they can still live when their tail is severed? Mom of boys, PSA here!)

I've managed to only get lost going, and coming from, the grocery twice twice, which I consider an accomplishment. LOL People down here are very friendly, but definitely it's a slower pace of life. I've had to work hard to refrain myself from jumping through the phone or over the counter at the post office.  :-S

Also, everyone just about, refers to you as "ma'am" - it's so foreign to me!

The biggest challenge is that DH works crazy hours - going off at all hours of the night. Between that and Sean still waking once a night, I'm not getting much sleep. But, at least DH is getting tons of hours at work - especially when I hear of all of the rain up north! He would have had half the summer off with that.

Can I say that reading all of the posts about Halloween make me think that I'm not going to get the feeling of Fall down here (my favorite season!) - I mean, a pumpkin spice from Stbx when it's 70 degrees out?!  :-O

I'm hoping next week starts our new "normal" so I can find a pattern to settle into!

I'm going to stick around here to live vicariously through you all!

  • Butting in to say....you must get pumpkin spice frappuccino ;) I love those but it's normally too cold to have them that much up here in the fall. So live it up with pumpkin spice and warm weather! Anyways hope you are enjoying it there! The heat sounds intense but I'm sure you will like it when it's freezing up here!

  • Ooooh very sage advice, my friend - I will gladly take you up on it and think of you with my first purchase. Thank you for the tip!

And yes, I know we'll be happy come the Winter time down here and I can kick the ids outside without 74 layers! LOL
