Bridesmaid Dress, What Now?

What do you ladies do with the dresses you had to buy as bridesmaids? I'm in a wedding in September and the dress is just a plain brown, long dress nothing fancy so it's not something that I could shorten and wear as a casual dress. Are there places that you can consign bridesmaid dresses too? I didn't buy the dress anywhere near where I live so I don't really know what my options are. I'm just kind of tired of having a closet full of dresses that I don't wear and I hate to sound selfish but I'd like to recoup some of the money that I spent on the dress (nearly $200).

  • We have a place here for formal dresses to be consigned. I would look into thing near your area for something like that. Or you can try Craigslist. I have been debating on what to do with some of my old dresses since they take up room and the extra money could help.
  • I would call your local consignment stores, especially if you can hold it until right before homecoming/prom. They might be more inclined to take it then.

If not there are charities that will take them. At least you'll get the tax write-off!

  • We have something here called Cinderella's closet, where you donate you dresses and they put them out for sale for girls right before prom.  They charge the girls some trivial amount, maybe $15 or so and then donate that money to a local charity.  Then you get a tax deduction for your donation.  I pitched all my dresses to them a few years back.
