Should I keep reading Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief?

Or I guess I should say listening?

I've had it on my to-read since the movie came out in 2010.  I like YA but I did not realize this was more juvenile/children's lit then YA.  I'm about halfway through part 2 of 9 and don't mind continuing even if it is immature as long as the story is good, but so far I'm not loving it.

  • I thought the story was good, personally.  But if you're not enjoying it, don't force yourself to continue.  It's entirely up to you because your tastes vary from everyone else's.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • I thought it was cute, but IMO, the characters never matured. It's a very juvenile series.

I agree with Rev. I have a love for all things greek and roman though so I know I will read some things that are bad just because it has the gods in it.

I ended up having to give it another try because the only other book I had on my ipod was worse! I'm about halfway through now so will probably finish it out but I won't read the rest of the series unless I have kids one day and read it with them.

Yeah we ended up buying the first 2 books on a road trip. We didnt have anything else so we listened to both. I enjoyed them but I cant say that I loved them. I think when I have kids they will enjoy them more.

  • I really loved these for what they were! I would say now that your expectations have been adjusted, keep going. I thought they were really fun books.

  • I was a little disappointed with this book too despite my love of mythology. The movie was actually closer to what I was hoping the book would be.

    Ditto Lauren.

I went in knowing they were MG and I absolutely adore these books. They're fun and full of adventure and I can't wait to read these with my future kids
