If your friends were eating at one (sit down) place, but you wanted food from somewhere else, would you ever get it to go from your restaurant of choice and then take it to join your friends?

I just voted special snowflake because it was cool sounding. I wouldnt shun someone who did that, but generally Im too laid back to care much about where I eat when going out and can usually enjoy food from anywhere.

I voted depends on the restaurant, but I think some put up notices not to bring in outside food. I would say 8/10 times I wouldn't.

I voted depends on the restaurant. I'd only do this for my kids not myself. They are the world's pickiest eaters. Sometimes even at restaurants with kids menus I can't find something that they will eat. I wouldn't do this at a nice restaurant just someplace large and busy with lots of people where it would be less noticable. For the most part though we try to stick with places where we know they can eat something.

Maaaaaybe if they very severe food allergies or dietary restrictions that makes it impossible for them to order there, but I would still be embarrassed and hope it was explained to the restaurant staff. And even then, only if it was a decent-sized group.

I voted no. I think that's really rude. "Hey restaurant types! I love your place to sit down and eat but I think your food kind of sucks. I went somewhere else with better food but wanted to sit here and eat it. Thanks."

The only exception I can make to this would be to bring in a birthday cake when the place doesn't do desserts.

Holy cow! Yeah I didnt even think about that aspect of it. Thats pretty rude. I was thinking more of a gluten free diet person brought something that was gluten free into some place that doesnt have gluten free food.

If it was a vegan in a place that somehow only served meat, I could can kind of buy that if it was a big group and the person couldn't influence the venue.

But meat-eating people can eat other proteins at a vegan restaurant. This boggles my mind.

I can't believe there was NOTHING on the menu she felt like she could eat. If my co-workers were going out to lunch and I didn't like the restaurant I'd either not go or go and just order a drink.

See the gluten free thing is my issue. There are a lot of restaurants still that can't (or do a really crappy job) of accommodating that. But even with my issues, I still wouldn't bring in food unless it was like a snack bar or something. Not something from another restaurant. I would just order a drink and eat later.

I have brought Chick Fil A into the Barnes & Noble cafe to eat with my Starbuck's drink before, and I have also bought French fries at McDonald's and eaten them with my chicken nuggets at Chick Fil A (I was having a Very Bad Day), but I would not do that in a place that was not a counter service restaurant.

No, and I would feel awkward about it if someone else did. I'm sure I would find some exceptions to this, but in general the answer is no, I don't think it's appropriate.

Omfg, how rude is that?! Reminds me of our friend who, when we invited him to celebrate my birthday at a vegetarian restaurant, said, "There's nothing I can eat there." Um, you can eat EVERYTHING there, unlike me, when I repeatedly go to a meat-heavy restaurants with you because it's where you want to go. Does not compute.

I voted no. One time we went to a pizza place but my nephew wanted McD. My mother gave in to him and brought it in the restaurant. The owner mad. Didn't tell us to leave but gave us paper plates and took away the wrappers/bag. I was SO embarrassed. (This was regular pizzeria of ours.) The next time we went they had a sign posted.

We don't do it often, but if DH and I want to eat at a place we know the girls won't like we feed them at home and let them order dessert at the restaurant.

Because my daughter has celiac disease, we have to be extra cautious with where/what we eat. I've gone to pizza places before that don't make gluten free pizza and have brought our own GF pizza or another restaurant's GF pizza.

That's really rough. I have celiac myself and, yeah, in pizza places especially it's hard because the flour gets in the air. Places like Domino's gluten free pizza is more for people that are limiting gluten because of the cross contamination that can occur. Surprisingly Chuck E Cheese is good with gluten free pizza because it comes to them in a box already. And Boston's pizza does that too. The pizza dough arrives in a box, they put the toppings on in the box, bake it in the box. The only time it comes out of the box is when they are bringing it to the customer.
