infertility counselor

for any of you who have been to talk to someone about your IF, did you actually see someone who specialized in IF. I've found quite a few people who list this as a service they provide but I don't know what I should really be looking for.

I guess I could call my RE's office and ask for a referal?

Re: infertility counselor

  • I would definitely check with your RE since they would be a great resource for this. I saw someone who had no specialization in IF and she said some pretty boneheaded things because she was just ignorant in all things 3T.

  • I would definitely talk to your RE office. Unfortunately our insurance didn't cover any counselors who specialize in 3T issues. The first counselor I saw was pretty clueless, but the counselor I am seeing now is very good. She always admits when she is unsure of what I'm talking about and needs me to explain more and is very open to learning more about IF/loss.

Best of luck. I hope you can find what you are looking for.

  • I would definitely ask your RE. I chose someone (not referred by my RE) who had just listed infertility as a specialty... She didn't have any idea about what is actually involved in fertility treatments and I found it to be just another frustration. I'm sure it would be very helpful if they actually know what goes into it though!

  • I saw a loss counselor, but she was through my OB/GYN.... Actually, in the same office. I obviously went for a different reason initially, but the chats ended up turning into loss and IF. If your RE doesnt have a recommendation, I'd see if your OB does.
