NGPR: Help Us Plan our Anniversary

DH & I will be together 9 years, married 1 year this October!

We want to do a weekend away Oct 11-13th. We are very tight with money right now, but know that a couple nights away would be a great stress relief.

Any recommendations on where to go/stay? We really are probably up for a lot of things, as long as they are inexpensive. We thought about staying where we got married but it'd be $200+ a night plus dining there is expensive.

We live in central NJ and would be willing to travel up to probably 3 hours away. I know you ladies won't let us down with recommendations!

Re: NGPR: Help Us Plan our Anniversary

  • You can get seriously awesome getaways on Groupon and Living Social sites! You should check that out! Also, Boston never disappoints ;-)

Boston doesn't! But the 5 hour drive is a lot for only two nights. We said next time we do Boston we want at least 3 nights. I've been on Groupon and I just get nervous about it being a crappy place or something.

  • I usually check trip advisor or a similar site if I see something intriguing! Groupon is also great with their garuntees. If you aren't satisfied you get full credit back.
  • how close are you to the poconos? that is a nice place to go and you can always find a cabin for a reasonable price...and in the fall its beautiful!

  • I know nothing about the east coast but happy (early) anniversary! I hope you can have a nice relaxing getaway.

  • We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Lancaster.  It was affordable (less than $100 a night), but a really nice place.  They offered a self guided tour map that included sites that were more uncommon (they call it the "Off the Beaten Path" tour).  October is a great time to visit the area too!

  • Um...Philly! Lol. There are a ton of hotels to choose from in Center City or further out. There is always stuff going on, not to mention the things always available (National Constitution Center, Independence Hall, Franklin Institute, Art Museum, Mutter Museum, Eastern State Penitentiary [and in October they'll have their Terror Behind the Walls tours going on!]).

Yeah, it's decided. You're coming to Philly. :)

  • I was also going to say Philly. We talk about Philly frequently, but this year it looks like Baltimore.

  • How far away are you from Newport, RI? It is beautiful there!

MrsNYC's recommendation of the Lancaster (PA, I assume) area is also good. I mean, how often can you say you visited a town called Intercourse? And buy keychains that say "I <3 Intercourse"? Bahahahha

  • Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm running them all by DH. Trying not to take up my credit card offer for 0% financing for 6 months for a Disney vacation (I wanna go so bad!!). I think we want to go somewhere we haven't been which rules out Philly, the Poconos, Boston, and Baltimore. Not that we didn't love all those places, but someplace new would be nice too. I'm stalking Groupon and Living Social.

  • What about chincoteague island or Annapolis?

Are you guys hiking people, sight seers like in the city, or beach people?
